Is anyone familiar with Tom Brown's Tracker from Tops. I don't know if any have even been shipped yet. I saw it on Top's site and it looked very interesting. Any info would be appreciated.

the TOM BROWN'S TRACKER was first made over 10 years ago. Designed by Tom Brown and his TRACKER SCHOOL

The first maker that i am aware of is Dave Beck who made 4 different types . The knife is an outstanding design, to cover all aspects of surviving in the woods.

Dave Beck no long makes the TRACKER , i wished he still did. the TOPS model i haven't experienced yet and just seen it recently on Tom's Web Page.

i think you should get it based on the design alone.

DAVE if you are listening please see if you and Tom can make a limited run of CUSTOM versions.

i hope this helps a little.
Check in searc and archives i remember someone asking about the old version from dave..

Hello,
I have had the TOPs version since last May. It is a very decent knife.
I have been searching for an original Beck but they are VERY hard to find. I did however just recieve one of Dave Becks Pathfinder's, when Dave stopped making the Tracker he replaced it with these. I spoke to Mr. Beck this week via phone. He is a very nice guy with loads of information. He no longer makes knives, but may start again in the near future on a very limited basis only.
From what he said he will not make anymore Tracker's.

The TOPs version is well made. It has the weight of a 9 or 10 inch blade in a very compact package. I have used mine on a few outtings and it has performed well. I almost made the mistake of getting rid of it. I am glad I didn't. You can get them from TOPS for about 300.00 and if your a Tracker school graduate you can get one for 250.00 inludes sheath direct from the Tracker school. They sent me a cool little manual on all the features and how to use the different cutting edges. I believe its worth the money I paid.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys for your input.
I enjoy collecting quality knives that look interesting
to me,and, being disabled, will probably never use any knife that I own to it's full capabilities. in fact, the majority of them are "Mint Queens". I've never owned a Tops knife. The Steel Eagle also looks very interesting. Anyone familiar with that model? I've heard pros and cons about Tops. It appears that they give you alot of bang for your buck. The Steel Eagle 7 1/2" blade only $199, and the 11" blade only $249? I believe I read somewhere that the Tracker was being made by Tops to Tom Brown's specs, which I would think is a plus.
I decided to order the Tracker.
Any info that you may have on Tops knives would be appreciated.

All i have to say is that I love this knife

It has never let me down and always amazes me when im out using it

Anything you need done -- it will do with great ease

The Tracker knife is one of those which some people have described as ugly. However, it tends to "grow" on a person. ;)

You may want to check this thread out. Below is a copy from one of my posts.

"No offense taken. The real positive for the knife is it is an all in one tool that is relatively compact. It would not be my first choice to clean game, carve, chop, saw, scrape, etc. But it does all these things, just not as well as a tool designed specifically for that task.

So, if you are working on trying to go primitive and carry the minimal, this maybe the knife for you. The question for someone looking at one of these knives is, “what trade off am I willing to accept and what is my current skill level? Ok, I'll carry a smaller knife, but do I need to carry a saw and/or a hatchet now?”

If you are not building your own shelter, implements, bow drill set, etc. and relying on manmade items, I suggest saving your money. Why else have a knife like that if you don’t have the skill?

Here is a review that might answer some of your questions of actual performance in comparison with the Beck WSK. Hope it helps. QB"
