Well after a few weeks I am receiving some photos of my knives from Blade 2010. I am pleased to start posting with this one.

I am admittedly no expert on Japanese blades but this small Tamahagane bloom that Tom Ferry had at his ACE show really caught my eye. Tom had already forged the Tanto blade out but it was still quite rough. I have always been fascinated with the ancient art of creating steel this way and am very pleased Tom was able to deliver this piece to me at Blade. The Saya and stand are made of beautifully carved Claro Walnut. The Tanto shows the small gold engraved Koi around the blade, shimmering against the copper Habaki.

Buddy I really appreciate you capturing this whole set so well and. I am looking forward to posting the rest of the pieces you are working on.

Jon - Thanks for letting me play with this one. Hooo-weee! What a fine, fine piece of work by Mr. Ferry. A challenge to photograph... but really easy to like!

I can understand why you'd be so excited to show off this piece. Tom's work is ALWAYS a jawdropping piece.

You are in good hands. Buddy's work always makes me smile. :D

I was lucky enough to handle this one at Blade, and it is magnificent :D

That foto montage really captures the essence of this piece .

Fantastic piece and a terrific shot by Buddy. Tom hits one home run after another.

Bill I will repeat your description (magnificent) as that's what I was thinking before seeing your post and don't know of a word to better describe this beautiful and functional art set.

Total class from the tanto to the sheath, to the display to the beautiful photo.

Tom Ferry is on fire in my opinion. I hope this gets submitted for the CKCA calendar.

Jon,
I got to briefly fondle this at Tom's table - this is an exquisite piece, and building it from the Tamahagane on up just makes it even better.
Was glad I got to meet you at the ACE show and to see this one going to an appreciative collector!!!

So many little details to marvel at, what a gorgeous piece !
Great pickup Jon and very nice shot Buddy.

Gorgeous piece! Very nicely done all around. The engraved koi are a particularly nice touch. I also really like how Buddy captured this piece - the reflection of the koi on the blade is especially neat.

Jon, extraordinary doesn't capture the excellence of knife, details, display, and photography.
