I had a thing for small fixed blades for a while, and when CRKT came out with the Dogfish, I got one.
I couldn't get used to neck carry, but I started carrying it again when I saw an article about hanging a sheath knife in my pocket by a short length of chain looped around a belt loop.
Neat! I stowed my Dogfish in my pocket, and when I reached for it later, it wasn't there. But it was sitting in my pocket with the point facing up! For once, it was good that CRKT's knives don't come shaving sharp.
When the kydex warmed up, it loosened up, too, and dropped the knife.
Fast forward three years or so. I was thinking about this little knife. So I figured I would send Tom Krein an email, just to see what would happen.
Tom got back to me the same day, and said he would be happy to make a new sheath for it.
I've been a Willydigger fanboy since I first saw his work. So when I saw that he made a wooden version of Cthulu, I just about tried to climb through the Internet to get him to make me one in something he calls Everdeen Green.
Problem is, my wife got to it before me, and wrapped it up for Christmas.
Yeah, she does stuff like that.
Once I got my bead from WillyD, the question was: what knife to hang it on.
And the answer had to be: my new Tom Krein midtech!
Well, kind of midtech. The sheath is completely different: made out of thicker material, and better put together. The knife stays in unless I decide to take it out.
Tom also said he sharpened the Dogfish for me. Boy did he! If the knife came loose now, it would cut right through my jeans! So it may not be exactly new, but it feels new.
It took a while for me to get off my backside and say it, but I'm saying it now: Thank you Tom, and Willydigger!
