I just got my first custom from Tom Mayo and it is also my first Talonite blade! The custom is first-class all the way, I could find no flaws, whatsover and I looked hard! The knife has a 3 1/2" Talonite blade and the overall length is less than 8". The blade is hollow ground and satin finished. The grind is high on the blade and executed flawlessly. The handle is natural Micarta and has one pin and a thong hole. Handle work is great and the custom feels just right in my hand. It has a nickel silver guard. The solder joint is as good as they come. Overall, the custom is extremely "clean" and it came shaving sharp. Tom made an extra effort to ship it to me as soon as possible (he is also a knifenut).
I have only had the knife 6 days and have used it every day and it's still sharp. Have been wanting to see how it sharpens, but have to dull it first. All the reports are on the mark saying that Talonite holds one hell of a edge. If the Talonite sharpens up easily I believe that this custom knife will be my favorite using knife....and I have always preferred forged steel! When I first ordered the knife I knew that Talonite wouldn't rust or corrode and it was no big deal as I always take care of my knives....but, it is really neat not even having to worry about the blade staining or rusting. Also, IMHO the Talonite edge is no different than any other steel edge, I can't tell no difference!
To say I'm pleased is a big understatement...anyone wanting a quality knife then Tom Mayo is the way to go!! This one will not be my last Mayo knife. Take a look at his work at mayoknives.com!!
