I just got my first custom from Tom Mayo and it is also my first Talonite blade! The custom is first-class all the way, I could find no flaws, whatsover and I looked hard! The knife has a 3 1/2" Talonite blade and the overall length is less than 8". The blade is hollow ground and satin finished. The grind is high on the blade and executed flawlessly. The handle is natural Micarta and has one pin and a thong hole. Handle work is great and the custom feels just right in my hand. It has a nickel silver guard. The solder joint is as good as they come. Overall, the custom is extremely "clean" and it came shaving sharp. Tom made an extra effort to ship it to me as soon as possible (he is also a knifenut).
I have only had the knife 6 days and have used it every day and it's still sharp. Have been wanting to see how it sharpens, but have to dull it first. All the reports are on the mark saying that Talonite holds one hell of a edge. If the Talonite sharpens up easily I believe that this custom knife will be my favorite using knife....and I have always preferred forged steel! When I first ordered the knife I knew that Talonite wouldn't rust or corrode and it was no big deal as I always take care of my knives....but, it is really neat not even having to worry about the blade staining or rusting. Also, IMHO the Talonite edge is no different than any other steel edge, I can't tell no difference!
To say I'm pleased is a big understatement...anyone wanting a quality knife then Tom Mayo is the way to go!! This one will not be my last Mayo knife. Take a look at his work at mayoknives.com!!

Guys, that is just like mine! That pic is good, but really doesn't do the custom justice. IMHO, that design is about the "ultimate" using knife. I have used dozens of customs over the past 30 years and it is hard to improve on that design. I think it is adequate for most any tasks, other than chopping (have hatchet) and it is no self-defense knife (have S&W 38).
Tom...I'm still trying to decide what knife I want next!!

Man, youz guys are going to swell Tom's head with all this talk. Good thing his knives are good enough (and then some) to back any and all praise. I got a "boot" from him that is by far my favorite fixed blade, now if he'd just finish my folder. I want a "new" favorite!!!!

Hey! Watch out guys - with all these accolades Tom may sell enough knives to get a Mercedes like Rob's! Seriously, very very nice work & designed to be used. Tom, what are the chances of getting something in Talonite from you after the new year? (I have to get all of the knives on order from Rob S. paid off first!) Maybe around end of January/February? Would you E-MAIL me if this is do-able? Again great work on the knife & Larry you will appreciate the Talonite even more as you continue to use it.

Bill

HA-if i had a mercedes id trade it in on a pickup truck and spend everything that was left over on TOOLS!!!!!!!!!! (and maybe a few guns!)=which is probably the same thing rob would do!!!!!!!
