Actually, I'm not sure if it is a Tiny TNT or just some scrap he made into a knife... but it is sure a small folder for Tom!!

Keith,

The only thing I don't like is the nail nick! I love the " opening hole" in my large TNT. I was wondering if Tom was going to do this Tiny T with a thumb stud..... for those of us with no nails...

That is a sweetie!!

What are it's actual specs..such as blade length, OAL, ect.

And does Tom currently have it available in his line-up?

I doubt it is truly a Tom Mayo product. The holes are too evenly spaced, and the grind lines are too even.

His grind lines have always been on the money for me. I have no comment on the holes, except that the TNT is a true custom knife! ...And really sharp! (Sebenzas (several): 2 years/ no cuts. TNT: 2 weeks/ 2 cuts. I don't know if that makes the TNT a "better" or "sharper" knife, but it does seem to have a propensity to attack the owner...)

Large Mayo TNT and Large Reeve Sebenza
One has a much nicer feel in my hand....

Hey, just curious,
What's the blade material in the TNT line?
Also how much is the most basic model and how long is the wait on them?
I'm thinking about getting one...when i get the money of course

Talonite. Check out the website, it's really helpful. I going to try to save up for one too.
Good luck,
Matt

The previous post was a test. You have all failed miserably.

There has been much bantering, especially between Jerry Hossom and Tom Mayo about their respective abilities to grind straight lines and (for Tom at least) to drill holes evenly. The fact that I have bought three knives from Tom, and remain a satisfied customer should clue you in to how I really feel. The smilies in my post should have done so also.

You posters are hereby instructed to go to KFC and visit the 'Tom and Jerry' Show (rumor has it that after the respective amount of space taken up by the respective owner's knives at the blade show, the forum is going to be renamed the 'Jerry and Tom' Show). It has a lot of funny stuff in it. And some pictures of some great knives; yes, Tom has made some of them.

Tom, you are hereby ordered (Doctor's orders) to sit and watch one week's worth of sunsets on the North Shore, sipping the beverage of your choice.

After doing so, Tom, you may be able to grind straight lines again.

My daughter and I each bought TNT's from Tom at Oregon. I have carried mine almost every day since the show in April.

I love both knives but I think I like the mini better than my large TNT. I'll have to buy my own because there is no way my daughter will let me have hers.

Keep up the good work Tom.

For those interested I believe Tom's beverage of choice is Guiness Extra Stout. Quality deserves quality

Ok, call me a heritic and a fool, but from pure apearance I would go for the Sebenza. I just don't like the dropoint style blade or the blade opening device (how it looks). Neither are MAJOR dislikes, but...

Is it just me? Does he do a different style of opener?

Jumbi,

To my eye, the scan (on Tom's favorite tee shirt) of the TNT and the Sebenza is pretty close in both color and texture. Both knives are a little lighter in color than in the scan, but the scan also shows how they reflect light differently. The Sebenza is basically a "flat" gray, while the TNT is a little more of a "satin finish" silver gray. The TNT's finish is of a "finer grain" than the Sebenza and seems much less prone to "marking" or "scratching" in my pocket. My favorite plain Sebenza also has a Mayo bead blast on it. It looks "nicer" and wears better that the stock CRK finish.

General,

I agree!! I didn't like the LOOK of the hole... at first.... I almost ordered a thumb stud from Tom (Yes, he does them), but I figured he must know something! The "hole" is much easier on my thumb than the "pointy" Sebenza thumb stud. (I just opened each a half a dozen times... the TNT went back in my pocket!) (Another 3 openings: The hole is easier... and quicker.)

None of this is to say that I don't like my Sebenzas any more... and I don't like them any less that I did before I got my TNT. CRK makes an outstanding production knife. For a little more money, I can (and do) have an outstanding custom folder.

Hope this helps!!

You know Michael (C4) I think I must have read, in the course of NUMEROUS posts over the past year how much you like that small sebenza I sold you with the Mayo finish on it, this may be (slightly) off of this post's topic but you know what? Man I am glad you REALLY like that knife. It makes me smile everytime I hear you refer to it. Fellow forumites, I hope you agree that there is no finer feeling than knowing that a knife you had is now dearly loved in its new home. There are so many nice, well-rounded individuals that make knives. Living on Maui I have such a limited opprotunity to meet different knifemakers at shows, etc. Mayo, while a character, is one of those rare people who would excel at whatever they endevour upon. The TNT's are nice and I am so glad that Tom seems to have found a knife the he:

a) Likes to make
b) Is a well thought out/executed design
c) Is gaining him recognition that he deserves and (lets face it) relishes
d) Is getting very positive feedback about

Man, I just have a warm, fuzzy feeling all over (is that a leaky diaper?). Thanks everyone, and I do mean everyone. The knife community is such a rare, beautiful thing. Thousands of shining stars (makers, buyers, dealers), I'm glad Tom is one of them and I am glad that I have had the extreme pleasure of knowing him.

Sorry, I'm off of my pulpit now, thanks for letting me use the microphone for a little bit!

Aloha!

Hoss,

Every one who has ever seen the Mayo-Blasted-Sebenza likes it better than the standard plain Sebenza finish. And... it still looks like new!!

As far as the community thing goes, it isn't really off topic: I bought my first CRK, and a few
wink.gif
others, because of this community. The CRK I bought from you caused me to call some surfer dude in Hawaii to see if the knife was in good condition. The surfer dude vouched for you and later introduced me to his friend Jerry Hossom, who fried us three 10 pound turkeys on Saturday night at the Blade Show!! Jerry introduced me to Rob Patton, another fine maker. They all stood around Jerry's shop until 2 AM talking about how they make knives.... And I got to hang out...!

This is truly a great place to meet people who like what they do and are willing to share their methods with others...

Michael
