Hi all,

Wanted to know if there is any school or method of tomahawk fighting being practiced or taught these days. I've been doing lots of web searches with few results. Even articles, books, or videos would be cool.

I did check out the vid clips on americantomahawk.com and I'm saving pennies for a Roger's Rangers Spike w/ hooking edge. Love the look of that thing! I was about to get a Cold Steel Hawk, but stashed the $25 instead. Haven't owned one since my dog ate the handle off my stone Cherokee hawk when I was a youngun.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Diablero

Hi Diablero!
you made the right choice by picking a Roger Ranger instead of a Cold steel hawk! if I tell you it's like to compare a Busse and a Cold-steel! you see what I mean? I think you may search about "Chris Caracci". If I should take a CQB class with a guy in USA it would be him, and he is VERY competent with Tomahawk fighting too. ;)

Diablero,

Thanks for your inquiry.

This has been a long discussed subject here on our forum.

Here is some information that might be helpful...

Kelly Worden of Natural Spirit, www.kellyworden.com
Kelly is currently our primary recommendation for organized, quality training in personal defense, armed and unarmed. He has a school and certified instructors all over the country. He is familiar with our products and has trained in their use among Armed Services personnel. He is currently the personal defensive tactics contractor to 1st Special Forces Group, here at Ft. Lewis.

Mike Gillette
Mike is a law enforcement professional who specializes in combatives as they apply to less-than-lethal encounters. His background is well known and he is also equally familiar with our products. We have had much discussion with Mr. Gillette regarding the production of a training video that features his unique specialties and talents.

Sayoc, www.sayoc.com
Chris Sayoc and the Sayoc System is well known and they have a training program which incorporates the use of our Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk. Sayoc was the combatives consultant for the movie, The Hunted, featuring the Tom Brown Tracker Knife, available at TOPS, www.topsknives.com Tom Kier, a Sayoc master instructor, is not far from you in terms of geography...somewhere in PA I think.

Hope this helps...

I teach combatives. I also have tought Tomahawk out of nessecity.

If your ever in Michigan, anyone, let me know and I'll give you my contact info.

In terms of finding a good Tomahawk instructor...I will say that they're aren't many styles that focus specifically on "tomahawk." But if you find a style that teaches weapons based combatives, and teaches improvosed weapons, you'll be in good shape.

Let us know if you find someone.

Here are 2 Modern Arnis/combatives Schools in Virginia...

Brian Pancia
Alexandria, VA
panciab@atlantech.net

John Bailie
Progressive Self Defense
PO Box 211
Gainesville, VA 20155
jpbstraightblast@hotmail.com

I have to admit that I haven't seen these 2 personally in action (don't get out to VA much), but they come highly recommended. They teach weapons based systems, mostly Filipino systems. Modern Arnis is a diverse art that is known for its ability to translate techniques over many different mediums (stick, sword, tomahawk, tire iron, etc.)

Tell em I sent ya, even if they say "Paul Who?" ;)

Thank you all. I will begin learning Kenpo again after a several year break. The style of kenpo does not include weapons, though my instructor deos have some experience with western fencing. He supplemented his training with some sword styles too. You have been helpful.

James Keating has a tomahawk tape out as well, I believe. Not sure through where, drop an email to comtech@bmi.net to find out if you can order it direct.
