Who made the tomahawk used by Mel Gibson in The Patriot? Also, does anyone know who trained Mel Gibson in it's use?

Did the knifesmiths have any ways of reinforcing the wooden handles of tomahawks? I can't see them taking too much of parrying rifles before breaking. Did they wrap them with anything? Sort of like how you wrap a framing hammer's handle with electrical tape or duct tape below the head.

(Moderators: If you want to, you can transfer this to the tomahawk/axe forum. I didn't notice there was a general forum for tomahawks. :o )

A bayonet/rifle thrust has very little lateral force... even if you swing the muzzle, the counterbalance of the heavy end (butt) will five a feeble swing. For example, try swinging the handle of a sledgehammer while holding it about a foot from the head.

I'd have to say that a tomahawk has a very good advantage over a rifle and bayonet.
