Hey guys! Just wanted to show off my newest modification on the Cold Steel Trail Hawk I done for a local soldier being transferred to another unit. I wanted something a little different than the regular designs I usually do on the hawks so I started researching some older period pieces and tried to incorporate some of the woodwork a long with the filing of the head. I think it turned out pretty cool! This was super fun to make but took me forever! I used my dremel 3000 for all the big and small stippling work you see. I also filed the head and brought the spine of it to a mirror polish. After that I threw a few different stains on it and finished it up with some Semi-Gloss urethane! The only thing I wish I wouldn't have done is add the huge turkey feathers. I had some smaller ones but I needed to get rid of the big ones lol. But all in all I think it turned out pretty cool :) Below is a short youtube video pics.

very very cool work. one thing i have always been wondering, will the file/wood work affect the stability in any significant way?

Jeez man that's awesome now I want one.
Thanks man I appreciate it!

I have been asked that question before and anyone is welcome to input here as well. I don't see the file work negatively impacting performance really considering most of the impact is on the edge and being absorbed up the middle of the cheeks. As for as the woodwork It looks like it could have the potential to have a week stress point when chopping but it feels solid. I tried not to take too much wood off in the middle. If I were to use it I would be confident in it not breaking. Just judging from handling and feeling of it. Of course I wouldn't want to take this out and mess it up after spending a lot of time on it lol. My goal is to make people want to put it on a wall.

Thanks man!

Thanks for your reply. Well, I guess this will become a wall hanger for sure. I was just curious.
