Jeff and Mike, what kind of ideas do you guys have for the tomahawk? Will it be more for outdoors or more tactical? Long or short?

My first suggestion was that on the poll, the end opposite of the chopping side, instead of it being sharp and pointy like this Ranger RD-hawk...

...it could be more like the Cold Steel Trail Hawk with a hammer poll. I think a hammer end would be more useful.

Well then I saw this American Tomahawk Company one called the Sibert Comanche, which has a really nice/tactical looking poll.

What idea does everyone else have?

Either way, I can't wait for it to come out.

I like the trail hawk idea better myself, more reminiscient of classic 19th century design, which appeals to me.

Definitely in favor of a hammer poll. Fight with a rifle or a handgun for Pete's sake.

Besides, it's not like a hammer poll won't kill someone just as dead as a back spike will.

Oh, wait, tactical 'hawks are for penetrating even the latest body armor right?

What good are they the other 99.99999999% of the time?:D

I've gotta get one of those trail hawks and see what all the fuss is about. I have lots of doubts, though, about replacing a Fiskars or kabar bowie this one....

But a RAT one would be cool.

We're concentrating on our small woods ax first. This will be an ax similar to the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Ax. Once we get that to market then we'll start looking at a tactical hawk.

Sounds great! I can't wait to see it. :D

if anyone still cares ??
I would love a shorter hatchet/tomahawk mix thick and heavy like a hatchet but with a longer cutting edge like 3 1/2 or 4 inches with an overall (handle and all)under 13" hammer butt is better (if you have to use it as a weapon the edge is just fine by me) . I don`t like the idea of getting poked (I have a sog tomahawk and that thing is worrysome) an all steel poduct with scales would be great as everyone hates to rehaft even if it`s easy for them to do.thanks for listening if anyone is still out there.

We care ;)

And we read and listen to every post on this forum although we may not always respond. Our customers and what they want is everything to RAT Cutlery. I truly wished we could build everything that everyone wants but sometimes we have to go with a compromise for everyone when it comes to design. With that said, your words have not gone un-noticed.

Thanks,

Jeff

A small axe is definitely something super-cool that I would be interested in. Are you guys thinking of a synthetic handle or wood?

I know you guys have a lot on your hands right now, but roughly, when do you think we'll expect to see the axe?

I'm going to Yosemite, sometime in summer and would love to have a compact EDC axe.

We're hoping to have it out before Summer but we still have some testing to do. Prototypes have to get made and then Mike and I plan on beating the hell out of the protos to make sure there is no failure. After we're satisfied then we'll start production.
