Hey guys. I just got my tomahawk in the mail, and I was wondering if I should leave it at the length it is (17 1/2 inches) or cut it down.

I read a book that said your throwing knifes and tomahawks should be as long as your forearm (elbow to knuckles). Is that true?

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I believe that there is a past thread by Two Hawks, a custom maker of highly regarded throwing hawks (among other hawk types), describing how to tune the handle length of your hawk. It might show up if you use the search feature.

I would see how it throws before considering any handle shortening, and then shorten in small increments.

The lucky thing about Tomahawks is that handles are cheap to come by and relatively easy to replace. Throw it... and if you want, cut it, but have a few extra handles ready. I'd bet money that you will replace it a few times before you're truly satisfied.

And yes, Two hawks. He's highly informed and respected. One cannot go wrong by listening to him.
