Does anybody have some useful tips/tricks for using a 'hawk? I've had one for a while and feel like I don't know all I should when I'm using it. Do I keep my wrist flexible or locked? Should I swing from the shoulder or from a more "guarded" position in front? Also, what do I use to sharpen it? Anyone care to help a noobie out?

Well what kinda hawk ya got and what do you want to use it for? I've used a hawk well since I can remember so I've gotten pretty used to using them in the woods and then I carried 1 abroad. But I still don't know all and will try and help ya!

Trucker friend multi-tool axe. About as long as a Cold Steel Trench hawk, with a half moon striking face. Pretty blunt, I've pretty much ruined the diamond grit rod on my sharpener putting what edged it has on it.

I'm gonna have to look it up as I'm not familiar with it. But it sound like it's a demolition tool/breacher so it may act and preform different than say a rmj, winkler, cold steel,2hawks,storm crow...Ect. I'll look it up though and see whatcha got and give you my opinion. What do you want to use it for? That's the big question? Cuz it sounds good for demo/breaching.

Sorry to be a fuddy duddy, but I suggest you get a more traditional axe or hawk and learn to use it. Contrary to what a lot of folks think around here, I think you can learn a lot on youtube. Just watch a lot, keep an open mind, don't become single minded fanboy and practice. I also recommend Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski.

Wow...yeah man not a hawk still a nice tool though...I agree with dogstar and you can learn a lot just by experimenting with them! Most people are surprised what I can get done with a hawk it's just a matter of practice some good info and a good hawk and you can do most anything!

I'll do that! Thanks for the help guys!

Double post. I'd be sorry but it really wasn't my fault.

Good advice and thanks. I got this one because I like that I can drive tent spikes, pull them, chop, smash, pry and do quite a few other things without having to haul a metric fuckton. I've been considering a trench hawk though.
