Everyone: I know I said I would not post here much, but time and pressure from other people (you know who you are.) are forcing me to comment again. I know that I initially said there were no plans for a tomahawk video but as always 'things get changed'. Paladin Press has approached me on doing one based loosely on what is in Fighting Tomahawk (the book). Since my surgery has me in a 'listen to your body' mode, this project seems to be the best approach to keep me from going insane from not being able to train like I did. I'm in the process of getting the training objectives together which will form the base for the contract. Should take about a year to do this with a filming in the fall 08 or Spring 09...not sure yet....still planning. Paladin wants to 'break-the-mold' on what we normally see in most martial arts videos, instead of seeing some guy standing in front of the camera talking we will take a more narrative approach complementing action shots and excerpts from classroom sessions. Bottom line will try to make it dynamic and instructive at the same time. As with the ole Bowie video will keep one foot in histroy and one in the modern world. At this early planning stage there are really no absolutes other than I will be using Tim Ridge's Hammer Poll Hawk (Swamp Fox Knives), Cold Steel's Trail Hawk, and Eddie Killian's K-5 hawk. I think it would be appropriate to dedicate it to Peter Lagana. It will not be as detailed as the Cold Steel Video of Fighting Tomahawk but should complement it.

O.k. I would like to get your ideas on what you would like to see in terms of complementing your training. This project is not about me, it's about the Tomahawk so please don't flood me with a bunch of ego-driven bull...just constructive good ideas about the look, history, and technique.
Please drop me a pm at d-mclemore@worldnet.att.net. If you want to post them here that's up to the moderator.

My Best
Dwight

Pay attention to footwork, I think footwork and posture are very important

:thumbup:I would like to see a fast recovery after a miss target ,from many different angles!?

i would like to see the techniques done on the wooden pell you describe in your book and in conjunction with a training partner. i like when there is some solo training stuff on videos for those of us without a training partner. kind of like what Kelly Worden does with the silent fighter.

Dwight,
If you are thinking of dedicating it to Peter Lagana. Why not use a VTAC for a portion of it ?

Hey Dusty:

Listen, I still have to get the Lagana family permission to do that but that is the intent if everything falls into place. In the book version will address the VATAC generally. That weapon has got a lot of attention by everyone and I did not want to get into the 'Follow the Crowd' syndrome.....wanted to show some other aspect. Years back I held a seminar at Steve Huff's school south of Baltimore. The representative from the American Tomahawk Company, Susanne Settle showed me the VTAC and I got to work with it quite a bit. Here is my thought that tomahawk: is a great weapon for everyone but me. First I don't like the back spike ( a debate we've all had before) and that is my opinion and I like a longer handle on mine. I don't have problems equipping soldiers with a VTAC but not me...just does not feel right for me. I think it may be a bit light for doing forced entry work but that is just my feel. I know from my daughter that some of the people in theater have used it successfully. The K5 is a bit heavier, and more to my taste has a hammer poll and I'm pretty sure it can take out a door or open up an ammo box. I like tomahawk to have a strong tool use side to it. Again, no way will I bash the VTAC, it is just NOT FOR ME.... that's all. Another point is that anything about the VTAC should probably be done by someone who worked with what Peter Lagana taught and is a big fan of that weapon. Sort of like the dead Navaja book I started, I just don't have the insights to the culture of that particular design so will leave it to the experts. I really wish Peter Lagana was still around no doubt this forerunner would have had a lot to say. Bobby Branton sent me a book of Lagana's poetry...... it has told me a lot about the man. I've got a letter for permission off to the publisher in the hope of using some of that publisher. Wish me luck. This whole thing is still in the very early planning stage so anything can change.... I appreciate the post and interest. Keep it coming.

Best
Dwight

Dwight,
I wish you the "best of luck" with the Video, and thank you for the honest answer.
When it comes out let it be known on the forum...
Respectfully,

I lose steady internet access for a few days and look what gets posted!!! Dwight, you know that this (obviously) makes me happy. ;) I'll be in touch with some of my thoughts here over the next couple of weeks, you can count on that!

FSC: Please do that ! Talked to Paladin today, they have my concept proposal and will be working up the contract shortly. I'm well into the script and story boards. Again the plan for this thing is to be 'outside-the-box' but still instructional. It's probably going to be pitched like someone giving a class similar to what we did with the video I did for Hoch. At any rate don't plan to do the ole 'stand there and talk to the camera drill'.

Best Dwight
