I have been wanting a tomahawk for some time. I am going get one purpose. 1. just want. 2. breaching 3. combat 4. utility

I have narrowed it down to these

1. RMJ loggerhead I love this model but I do not like the idea of giving a company my money in Nov. and waiting until Feb. to get my product that I paid almost a half a grand for.

2. swamp rat kill devil sniper hawk. There seems to be a few reviews showing how durable and useful this hawk is. I am kind of liking how swamp rat has bridged combat with utility. I just do not like that stamped out look of the hawk. Same issue wait time is 4-14 weeks.

3. Zombie tools trauma hawk I like the looks. just unsure about the weight and the design just not enough people have them to state how they hold up. Also don't like wait time.

4. Two hawks voyager - I have been loving this hawk for a while too. I like the blade shape and the hammer poll I just really wanted something full tang.

Out of these 4 which would be the better buy as I said I want it primarily for the purposes of that I like it. Secondly I want it to go in my bug out bag as my job requires that I travel a lot. As I said I live in an urban area so my primary concerns are breaching, self defense, and then fire making. I always have a folder
or multi tool on my person.

Question: is the new benchmade any better over the old one and with its weight how would it do as a fighter?

Check out a forum member on here Storm Crow, he makes an awesome hawk that will fill ever thing you want at a way better price than your first 3.

I have the RMJ Shrike S13. It serves well as my all purpose hawk. I got mine from a friend at a great price with no wait.
I agree with Shaw11b. Storm Crows stuff looks fantastic

I say go for the 2 hawks model. The traditional tomahawk has been around for centuries and is more than proven. If you do somehow break a wood handle they are simple to replace.

I prefer traditional more than tactical .. so out of THOSE choices, I would pick the 2Hawks <-- which I own one and like it lots.

With RMJ, you do not need to put the full amount down. Great product and great company to do business with. I've dealt with Richard a few different times and they are truly good people who care about their customers.

The Kill Devil, despite the "stamped out look", is extremely solid and a lot beefier looking than it appears in the internet pics for some reason. I was concerned about that as well and was very surprised how it felt in hand when I got mine. It splits the difference in weight very well between a fighting hawk and a breaching hawk and I feel it would handle both extremely well. You probably won't have to wait for one either. Check out the "Exchange" on this forum and many times you can pick one up at the same price as new.....maybe even get a cord wrapped ganza edition too!

Haven't seen the zombie tools hawk but they seem to have a good reputation. Good steel, good heat treat. The post apocalyptic look......I personally don't care for. To each their own.

Two hawks......I have no idea about.

You've already ruled out your own first three choices due to impatience. If you "must have" a hawk asap, and one that can handle the tasks you listed, research the Spike Hawk from Ontario. I shopped around and found a NIB model for < $100. It will smash a cinder block as easily as it will pierce Kevlar, is made from a single slab of steel, and is a convenient length to carry in a Bug Out bag or vehicle. For it's price and quality, I haven't found anything comparable or superior that I would trade it for.

I had a two hawks long hunter and I loved it. As traditional hawks go, that is what I recommend. The "I want it" factor plays a big part. I have a few CS hawks that I modded the hell out of, I had a 2 hawks but sadly had to let it go to pay some bills. Then I got the full tang solid hawk itch. I tried to scratch it with cheaper budget hawks because I couldn't justify the "need" for a 400 hawk and then I saw StormCrows hawks and that was all she wrote. I sold a few knives I had and placed an order. I got one of the original fist batch and I have been happy ever since. His base price was 200 but I got the pry spike and sharpened beard. I have played with several RMJs, great workmanship and top notch quality but I couldn't justify the 400 and up price plus I like the longer hawks. I have also played with the benchmade/k5 the VTac and a few others and I would put my StormCrow hawk against all of them

CRKT T-Hawk was designed by the guy who owns RMJ, so that may be an option without the wait.

I have an RMJ berserker. I was on a waiting list for it for about 6 months, but got one of the very first made available to the public. They are a great company and really take care of us vets

THIS. I really, really don't like the newfangled tacticool stuff, so out of that list I'd go with Two Hawks.

Also consider H&B Forge; their standard line-up is good stuff but they can also make you just about anything you want custom, relatively cheap but very well made.

I put ontario spike hawk in the search engine are you talking about the Ranger RD hawk?

Just a note. I REALLY wanted a hammer pole hawk because it seemingly offers a good utility. When I saw an RMJ Jenny Wren (spike) available at a dealer I decided to snag it and check it out while I waited. After having it, there is no way I would trade it for a hammer pole. No way. A rock works almost as good for any likely hammer tasks but pretty much nothing can replace the spike. Personally, I would urge you to reconsider.

I have looked at StormCrows site kind of hard to navigate but I finally found a couple of his tomahawks. They do look nice. I am interested. Plus he is right here in Texas too.

I'm probably going to get roasted, but utilitarian tomahawks aren't very good breaching tools. I've monkeyed around trying to chop through old doors on demo structures, and anything light takes forever. Car windows are a different story.

Why not get something light for combat/utility, and a one-handed sledge or 18-24in crowbar?

Jamaljahda - I'm about to send you an e-mail. For anyone else curious, the blog dedicated to my tomahawks (and future stock removal blades that are also in the works) is www.helmgrind.com . The www.helmforge.com blog is dedicated to my forged work, with the tactical 'hawks mixed in.

I played around with a mtech 1 piece tactical hawk,i liked it,gave it to a friend, but it was enough to let me know that I want to save up for a better hawk.
