which generation is their best, second or third? also, i cant find specs on the blade thickness of the gen 3

anyone know which steel is better? which holds up better? keeps an edge for longer? I like the way both look, so its pretty much a question of which will function better for longer

I own a 2nd and a 3rd both are great knives; the 3rd is one of the smoothest opening knives I’ve ever owned and the locking system if fabulous. But for some reason when I reach for them it always seems to be the 2nd that I end up with, there is just something about the feel of it that I really love. Also if you like the Tomcats you should check out the Sogwinders they too are, in my humble opinion great knives and like the Tomcats in a class of there own. On the other hand what do I know?

VG 10 is by far the best stainless the Tomcat has seen. Wait untill you sharpen it and see what it is really capable of. It's considered better than all but the powder steel Super steels like ZDP 189, S30V (barely), S90V, etc.. It is up there with BG42 too. It's good at corrosion resistance, good at edge holding, and good at resharpening. It's considered better than ATS 34, and 154cm, 440C, all the AUS steels ( 4,6,8 , and 10) at edge retention. Edge strength is good, and it's not known as an easy chipper, though that's relative as all stainless steels are compared to good carbon steels. I have a 2nd generation Tom, and a SOGWinder, both with AUS6A steels IIRC. They're good, the newest Tom should be better cutting wise. Joe L.
