Ron@SOGknives: Did SOG ever make the Tomcat's using AUS-8A steel for the blade?

Also, how does SOG attach the black Kraton handle slabs to the Tomcat and has SOG had complaints regarding the slabs coming off?

A thread in the Review Section here: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000248.html brought this question to mind!

Mark,

For the steels used for the Tomcat, refer to my post called SOG FIXED BLADES.

Hi Everyone,

440A (or AUS6A) is the steel. I don't know of it ever being in 440C (or AUS8A). I have every old brochure at my desk at work and don't remember seeing it advertised with anything different. I'll also ask the SOG's owner. If I find anything different, I'll update you guys.

Regarding the Kraton slabs coming off. That can happen on occasion, but is not a problem. We see very few of these returned. When we have seen them come off, it has usually been related to water or chemicals getting under the slabs and deteriorating the glue material. We have a very specific method for putting them on. If anyone has this type of problem, SOG will take care of it...No hassle!

These websites list the Tomcat as having 440C blade steel which we now know may be incorrect. Hopefully these dealers will take note of this so they can correct their advertizing with the Tomcat:

SKYLANDS CUTLERY

TOOL-SHOP

NW CUTLERY

ACTION DIRECT KNIVES

This company advertizes the steel in the Tomcat to be 420 stainless:

BLADES 4 LESS

THANKS Ron@SOG for shedding light on this!
