Hej folk!

Of course a lot of you know the Tommi-puukko from Kellamknifes. It is known for it´s superior quality.
But do anyone know the Tommi-knife from the finnish smith Hankala (www.Hankala.com)?

It looks like the one from Kellam. He is also a very famous smith in finland.
The knife costs less than the half...

Thank you for your help

greetings, frogfish

I have seen a few of these actually. I wouldn't call it a Tommi though. It's more of a Traditional Style Finnish Dress knife than a Tommi. All 4 of the knives I have seen handles from this maker have been very nice. One had VERY detailed fillagree silver inlay worked into the stacked birch bark handle with the name and year of the man the knife was crafted for. They all had silver bolsters. The sheaths were perfect. The blade quality of his knives is supposed to be excellent as well. We didn't really use the knives though due to their decorative nature. I would pretty much guarantee that the Kellam Tommi would outperform this Tommi in cutting and edge retension.

I bought one from him a few years ago! No, I don't think it as good as a KP from Kellam. It's a bit heavier and the tempering is different. But it is still a lovely knife and for the money I'm very happy with it. If you like that kind of knife, and I do, I think it's excellent.

Hankala does make Tommis as well, but I understand his favourite model is the Toijala-puukko.

Tommis are absolutely brilliant, no non-sense knives, designed for use as a tool. If you ask me, there's no better knife a money can buy than a hand-made Tommi. I prefer the works of Pentti Kaartinen (www.tommipuukko.com).

I've been looking at this knife for a long time. It's beautiful and seems to be a wonderful deal on a handmade puukko. I would love to get it, but I have other priorities right now, namely picking up my first firearm.
