So as the title states it tommy is like a magician. I reached out to him for my first becker a bk2. He can through with some amazing rosewood scales. Littke did i know i was addicted. I then got a bk16 about a week later. I scrambled to find a matching set of scales. That famous bidding site didnt have any by the tmils. I emailed him directly and explained to him what i was aiming for. He got back to me withing a few days. He said he was really busy with his everyday job and it may take a while. Obviously i was worried but said thats fine just happy to get a matching set. One week later he emailed me pics of my set perfect. I spent the time i had hunting down cool stencils for etching. Everything came together yesterday for me. Here we are.

My bk2 first day with her scales.

My 16 after owning it 2 day. Stripped and vinegar patina.

Etched my 2.

Got my scales and etched her same day.

Family photo.

I know my post is pic heavy but i am excited and very happy.

Yeah, those look great man.
I've been wanting to do some etching but just can't decide on a pattern...

You use PCB acid, right? What kinda time/method you use?

My bottle says it works faster if heated/warm. I figure a small container inside a larger container of hot water.

Might not make much difference on a knife tho as those instructions are intended for a fine layer of copper.

Thank you. I did the 9v and saltwater. I got pretty cool stencils from Michael's. They are vynl self adhesive. Works like a charm.

I was going to use the pcb etch method but i dont have the stones to etch my whole blade. I dabbed the cotton ball over the stencil going over the entire thing 4 times. Takes no more than twenty minutes cleaning it up and polishing takes longer.

Ahh ok...I haven't worked with that method before.
Researched it a lot, but got the PCB acid for a hawk to do the entire surface so the 9v didn't seem practical. Now I'm left with a lot of this so I may as well use it.
It worked nicely on the lazer etch prior to stripping. Tried a spot on an old hickory using a sharpie for the pattern and it worked ok...havent got brave enough to do it to a beloved Becker yet tho haha

Yours came out great!

Thats where i was hesitant to use the pcb. I am no artist at all. So i didnt want to see my horid artwork engraved in my beckers for all of eternity. I have seen some great work with the pcb method. I have 9v batteries laying around and the alligator clips i got from work for like a buck. So my investment being so low on materials really got me going. All i needed were stencils and when i went to the arts store and seen these. That was it. This was the exact look i was going for beautiful. I call my 16 rosy floral etch rosewood scales.

Those sure are pretty.
No you've got to go beat them up.

True that hard yo do in the city. Someone got shot 16 times for weilding a deadly pen knife. Yea i live it that city(chicago). I wont be able to put hard use until the seasons change. These will be used for opening boxes breaking boxes down and chopping down branches in the yard until then. Nothing spectacular. Once spring comes around i can get out of the city camping and hiking.

Yeah T Dog has some skills yo. But seriously, that etching makes those two look so classy! As if they weren't that in the first place with that rosewood. Add that leather and Hot Dog! We have a weiner! Amazing JayBergz. Simply amazing brother. It couldn't be cooler if you had a six shooter pictured with them..

Very nice! NCSlice, if you want to do more heavy duty etching, pick up a large battery at a battery store, and some alligator clips. Etching is a lot cleaner with the electrical, IMO. Acid etching always has a little bleed-through for me for some reason. It's a bit faster, but do be careful of the fumes.

Thank you. Thats the look i was going for with my bk2 like a old western six shooter with a side of triple x whiskey. Thanks for the kind words.

I was actually thinking of a 16 volt doorbell transformer.
But its a/c...dunno how a/c vs d/c effects the etch. I'll look it up.

I thought those transformers put out 16v dc i could be wrong. From what i have read ac makes a nice dark etch. A 9v was plenty for me.
