All I'm gonna say is if you have a small SAK next to your easy chair for fingernail filing while watching TV, you MUST not take it out to file a nail that needs a good HARD swipe while having the ...KNIFE BLADE...out instead of the fingernail file.
YOWWW!
My God what pain! I haven't even looked at it. I had to keep it elevated all night just to ...subdue....the throbbing STING!
I gave it one HARD swipe. Didn't take long to realize.
What is harder to accept is that I must now have entered the age of being too senile to be able to process information on the use of ...multi purpose...knives.

OUCHY!!! I hate when I do things like that!!! I bet you don't do THAT twice!!

I once zipped my jacket while I was whittling with a single blade Case pocket knife. I probably should have either put the knife down or closed it before I zipped. Fortunately it was really sharp, so it was a nice clean cut that healed nicely. :o

Dumb. Not dumb. Anything but dumb!

You are an eccentric genius. Way over qualified for dumb. Unlike that other eccentric genius, Howard Hughes (whose nails grew without interruption or care later in life), you are capable of trimming your nails in your golden years. Capable of amputation as well it sounds like. Did you see the thread on super gluing cuts.

Rejoice in your gift of capability. Maybe try whittling wood. Were you watching a whittling show, knife show (on QVC) or Zorro? I wonder how many accidents are caused by TV every year?

As a public service I hereby volunteer to take offending knives, those that have bitten their owners, and mercilessly confine them here in solitary. Send me, postpaid, those bad knives for imprisonment and I'll get back to you when the jail becomes overcrowded.

All the best,

oregon, waay out west

You get a little bit more intelligent each time you hurt yourself. ;) That's why when people get cuts or bruises they say, "Damn it that smarts!" :D

Wow that must've hurt like hell...i just think of the pain of clipping a nail to short or pulling the tip of your nail up and i cringe let alone slicing under your nail...

Oh, it didn't go UNDER the nail. Oh nooooooooo. See, the file was perpendicular to the end of the nail so it went...DOOWWWNNNNN....waaaaay down toward the pad. Way it feels today (still haven't had guts to look at it...just change bandage) I mighta took off most of the tip.

Where the NERVES are.

Woooooooooowwwwhhhhh!

:thumbdn: :foot: :barf: :(

However, I can definitely confirm that the thin profile of the SAK is GREAAT for slicing.

File under "knife test."
:D

Sounds like you need that stitched up, but the sooner the better, or else the cut inner surfaces will not heal together well.

I know what you're thinking...."stitches are gonna hurt!" Actually, they will freeze your finger first...so only that tiny freezing needle will hurt.

Which finger? If you can find a diagram of the nerves of the fingers, you'll see MANY more nerves in the tips of the index finger and thumb, than in the other fingers. They're there because we use those 2 digits for fine work. So....a cut in either of those 2 will hurt like HE11!!! I know! I almost lopped off the tip of my index finger in a crush accident (impact so hard that it split open my finger, without the need for a sharp blade).  I've had lots of injuries, but that one hurt the most...I almost passed out from the pain!

Anyway, enough about me.....go get that stitched ASAP!

I already have THIS one on order.

I intend to remove the magnifying glass so I won't be tempted to look at the sun.

 :p

Incidentally, I removed the bandage and it's.....NOTHING..... just a lil cut. A....HURTY....lil cut, but not big at all.

Okay, so I'm a big baby.

Treat me nice and send me a "get well" knife.

;)

My friend Jane borrowed my brand new Buck 119 last night to trim something and got some stuff on the blade. She was nice enough to wipe down the blade with her jacket and got a little surprise.

She didn't cut herself though, but the jacket has a good slit in it.

Actually Dirty Harry covered it rather well...."I admire a man who knows his limitations!".....
