So I just won this auction and I was wondering what you guys had to say about the price/craftsmanship on this blade? do you think I probably got a good deal, returns are accepted so i am not too worried. Was just hoping there might be some insight as to the quality of work and materials that would make this knife cheap, or if i got a really good deal on some custom damascus, also does it look like there is a pit in the steal near the point on the right side of the blade? thanks

returns are accepted to england. check out the shipping cost. It's no doubt Pakistani made. I got two Pakistani damascus knives off the bay (via England). One was nice. The other was not. Pictures don't often tell the story with these knives. You might get lucky, but if you don't its not a huge amount of $$ to gamble.

Only you can decide. If you like the knife when you get it, then it's worth the $$.

From personal experience, I would be very surprised if it's actually 58 HRc.

It will make a fine wallhanger.:D There's an old saying "You get what you pay for" Use the hell out of the knife and come back and give us a review.

Considering I got this instead of a BK2 or BK11 and at the same price, I'll work the hell out of it and post some action pics maybe. Thanks for the logical advice guys.

That's the spirit, give that knife a run for it's money.

Look at things like the fact that somebody ground that "filework" in and raised a big burr on every cut, and left all those big burrs on the blade. Things like that are more than a huge clue as to the quality of something like this.

It looks to be decently put together to me, the only thing I see on it that I dislike terribly much is the style of jimping, it looks almost like it was made by pushing some pattern into the top of the blade while it was hot. I don't make knives so I wouldn't really know but the way it is pushed out and rough looking on the side bothers me a bit.

I think you did good though, it's only 13 bucks, and it looks to be constructed decently, take a file and fix the jimping, if it holds an edge you got an awesome deal. Even if you have to resharpen it every other day of use it would still make a nice dress knife or hang it over your mantle.

Is there anyone here that could grind the jimping off completely and re-profile it into a drop point for me? Is that even a possibility? Could I do it myself with just a grinder or would i need to re-anneal the blade afterwards?

Well, it is custom since somebody made that on the dirt floor of his Pakistan workshop. It was probably made as piece work where he was paid $10 for every 10 knives he made, so he didn't have any time or incentive to do more work than necessary.

You didn't get a "fake" knife or fake damascus, you just didn't buy very good quality. Its most-likely lack of a proper heat treat that will be your problem.

Did you also notice the lack of feedback for this seller?

I'm no pro and I know nothing about knife making, but I would assume that since the knife is already hardened you cannot really grind into it and reprofile it..?

Also if you do that it would need to be re-etched to show the pattern. The parts that you grind will just look like plain metal.

Anybody ever tell you that your Forum handle is sort of strange?

Yes it is. Please PM me with an explanation of that handle. (Before I ban the handle and ask you to rejoin with something more appropriate for this community.)

Haha, It's just been my screen name since I was a little kid, I understand if it weirds some people out. I haven't been around long so I can change it.

Edit: I cant seem to PM you Bastid

OK I understand your point of view. At the same time, the message that is sent by that ID really does not belong here. I went through the motion of banning the ID and as I wrote in the message, you are welcome to return with a more appropriate ID.
