Too heavy?

I'm making a 9" hunter with brass bolsters and ironwood scales, it almost feels too hefty and weighs in at 6 oz. Is that too heavy for an all day belt carry knife? How much do your using hunters/utility knives weigh?

I've carried heavier than that, but I went a long time with daily carry on belt of a gerber gator, mini maglite, gerber multi tool, extra batteries for the mini mag, and a few other things. 6oz isn't too heavy for my taste for blade that size, but I like heftier blades. As long as it's balanced close to the guard, or into the handle, shouldn't be too bad. Now if this was big camp knife/chopper, then weight would definitely be alright, and preferably balanced forward of guard, to take some of work outta chopping. So I'd say alright, Just my .02

I carry a gerber 600 multi lock on my belt all day everyday and it weighs between 8-9 oz , I don't even notice it. I don't think 6 oz for a 9" knife is too much at all. The bigger issue with a 9" knife for belt carry is making sure its not awkward (poking ribs, bumping leg frequently etc. )

A lot of individuals prefer a heavier knife, they say the like the fell of the knife's "presence" in the hand. The deal breaker is more often blade length than weight.

Up to 8 or 9 oz. is okay for me for a hunting knife. A nine inch knife only 6 oz. sounds pretty nice.

Guy, build the knife to your specs.
No matter how you design and make it there will those that whine about it and those that just love it.
The craftsmanship and quality of materials is most important.
