Too Impatient to Wait for IZULA II

Got all my chores done today and had loads of nervous energy left. Seeing as how I don’t have any Prozac, I thought, “What better way to burn off some steam than work on an ESEE knife.”

I’ve been so looking forward to the IZULA II, but could not endure the wait any longer.

I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story because I’ve heard more then one time that if there are no pictures, then it did not happen. What you don't see however is the firesteel, 2 Advil and $20.00 bill inside.

Enjoy!!

dang that looks really good! how is the sheath retention?

Exactly like the IZULA retention. I trimmed it and then filed it. Test fitting each couple of strokes until it snapped in like a regular IZULA. NO play or wiggle or wobble or any other word. PERFECT!

I am waiting for the Izula 2 as well. I have wide hands and another half inch on the handle will make that knife a real tool for me, not to mention the full handle scales.

So you didn't have to change the HEST scales to make them fit the Izula? Just the sheath mods were all that was required?

Nevermind. Took another look, and realized the HEST scales have been modified on the bottom to match the shape of the Izula's handle.

No, it is not a simple matter of just putting them on. I had to remove quite a bit of material and shape them. Shaping the slabs took about 40 minutes, sheath about 30. You can keep taking a little off at a time and test fitting. But, if you take too much off, well, you can't put it back on. I kept the black spacer for the screw at the butt. The front one just needed the two sided nut.

I decided to do the sheath that way rather than cut the slabs so the knife would fit in the sheath because it give you that much more handle material.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys!!

I like the hole in the pommel of my Izula. But I tell you what, if I could get HEST scales alone, I'd do that same mod. That is slick. I did think, and said in another thread I believe, that I would prefer to keep the hole in the pommel, and not cover it. But this mod makes me re-think that opinion.

Fantastic. My izula is most carried knife, while my hest just sits around. This is an easy mod that I may try soon!
