Too many decisions

I'm looking to purchase my first RAT Cutlery Co knife but cannot decide which one. I will primarily be using it for backpacking/hiking trips paired with a Leatherman Wave.

RC-3
RC-4
RC-5
RC-6
Izula

Which one and why?

Yup ... the RC-4 is the perfect choice for backpacking/hiking trips.

But don't kid yourself as it won't stop there :D

The RC-4 is a great all around outdoor knife. Big enough for some serious work but small enough to pack easily.

RC-4 is a great choice.

Also, dependent on your areas legal situation, the RC-6 is a really fantastic blade seeing as you'll have the smaller blade on your Leatherman.

If hiking only and no camping involved, the RC4 would be a great choice. Even the RC3 would be a good choice. I know that keeping the equipment weight down is the name of the game when hiking.

It's down to the RC-4 or RC-3. Tough choice, but I'd go RC-4--it gets to the bottom of a peanut butter jar better. Or for a bit more versatility, you could go with an RC-3 and a folding saw....

I went with an RC4 and an Izula. My plan is to carry the RC4 in the pack and the Izula on the shoulder strap.

The RC4 is (to my knowledge) a little more stout than a RC3. I may be wrong, but I think of the RC3 as a weapon... the RC4 as a tool.

I didn't want anything much larger for bushcraft and hiking, so I didnt even really look at the other models.

Subscribing to this thread. I have a feeling this will become highly educational to me in my quest to buy a RAT like the OP.

If you have the Leatherman Wave with you I'd say go for the RC-5 or RC-6. The Wave can be used on the small stuff and the RC-5 or RC-6 can be used for the big stuff.

Whats the blade length on the Wave? 3 inches? I dont see the point in having two blades almost the same size.

RC-4 is a great all around knife. Good for hunting (cleaning your game) , camping (light batoning, trap building, cooking, fire building etc) , hiking (light enough to pack and big enough to use for protection if needed) just about anything.

The RC-5, RC-6 would be for more heavy duty work than what you posted.

RC-4 for all round use and RC-6 for camping. As Jeff c stated, the RC-4 is a little thicker than the RC-3 but feels great in your hand. Very easy to control.

RC3 is probably enough knife for hiking and not real heavy. A folding saw is good to have if you might have to build a shelter and gather a lot of firewood.

Since you have the Leatherman, I wouldn't go any smaller than the RC4. The 6 is my favorite.
To me it's easier to do a small chore with a knife that is a little too big than a big chore with a blade that's too small.

id go for the the 4. You have a leatherman for slicing needs and the rc 4 can handle any of the more difficult things. I ordered the izula and rc 4. For regular hikes ill just bring em both but for long distance weight ill probably just take the izula for weight reduction

RC4 is in my opinion the best of all the ones mentioned. I have the Izula which I edc. The 3, 4, & 6 are all owned & great knives. For what your intentions are...the 4 would be my top pick. Bullet proof for hiking and any chores you may come across.

RC 4. It is the one I started with, and I believe it is the best general camping blade of them all.

Another vote for the RC-4.

Paired with the Leatherman, you should have an awful lot of flexibility when it comes to cutting.
