Too Many EDCs - How do you decide?

This is all your fault, all of you. I got interested in collecting the stockman series, now I have a delimma.

I have my NIB collectors which are all tucked away for safe keeping, but I also have three that are users/EDCs: Vintage 8OT, Vintage 61OT, and Vintage 897UH. I really like each of these, and for different reasons. All three sit on my dresser as EDCs - ready and waiting for the daily call to duty when I get dressed each day.

So, what do you guys do when you have multiple knives that are your favorite EDCs - swap them out depending on how you feel that day or what?

I was fine when I only had one knife (a sacrilege in this group, I'm sure) and had not met any of you Schrade-a-holics.

I have the same problem. Do I strap on the Deerslayer, Woodsman or the XT1B, or go light and belt up the 156OT or a 152OT. If I am going to town, I usually opt for the Little Finger. Now for work, I carry the 897, no if's, ands, or buts. It has proven itself to be the ideal compromise between large enough to ream out pipes, scrape glue etc., and small enough to not weigh me down like a pocketful of quarters. Going out on the town with the family dressed up, I drop a tiny Pal or Minuteman in with my change. I guess it is as much where I am going and what I am going to be doing as how I feel that day.

I too was deprived for many years having only one pattern of fixed and one slippie to fuss with and depend on. Now, thanks to these guys, I could dang near carry a different pocket knife for every day of the month. Worse (or better) yet, I can carry a different fixed blade every day for six months. :D

I'd say it's fashion first, then function or whim. Let me explain. For work, I wear dress slacks, dockers, or jeans depending on the day. I wouldn't carry a big stockman or belt carry a leatherman on a dress day, the same way I wouldn't carry a gents knife on a jeans day. I have a slim metal vic with a money clip (not sure of the model) for dress slacks and sometimes dockers, and all bets are off on jeans days.

Some days (GASP) I don't carry any.(Schools, courthouses, etc.) I tend to feel naked then...

Well, maybe socks ;)

Glenn, I'm with you on the "Jeans thing". That's a guaranteed 7OT w/nylon sheath on my belt and the big 8OT in my pocket.

Must .....resist.... the urge.....must..... Would Mike Nelson use other than my WR1 Water Rat? Nay, I should think not! And if he did have the need for a folding knife, surely it would be the massive XT7B, a hinged version of the XT2B drop point. But given the times, he might well have used the hammer pommel H15 to fend off sharks. That airport movie rates him a rubber training knife though.

Just how many different 897 style stockmen did Schrade make anyway? 365 possibly? Anyone smell delrin burning?

I always carry a Schrade right next to my old style colt snub det special. That way if I someone trys to steal my knife I can protect it. It really dosent matter what I am wearing or for that matter not wearing although when not wearing any thing my gun type and size may vary. LT PS Just a note since now being alone one tip, which I am sure you have heard before but which I recently learned first hand, ( so to speak ), is never ever fry bacon while in the nude. LT

Uhhh, never set a bear trap or play with a cat in the nude...
