Too many knives...too little money...

How can you decide what knife to get next? There are so many knives that I want, but so little money to buy them with!

I already have more knives than I'd ever need simply to use, but that doesn't mean there aren't countless others I lust after...what to do...what to do...

Ask a loved one to pick the next one from a list of possibles.

I wonder what my g/f would think if I called her and asked her what my next knife should be? lol!

I had a strategy for dealing with this problem but I'm afraid that it isn't working well :( My strategy was to compare any new purchase against what I already have...so, for example, when contemplating a new dagger, I would ask myself "do I like this as much as my Brend Eliminator?" If it did not measure up, I would not go ahead with the purchase...unfortunately, my subconscious mind did not cooperate with the plan...now I simply say "hey, I have a dagger, let's start looking at choppers and recurves and Japanese cord-wraps and....and..." :(

I have the same problem. Actually, I think all knife nuts do. What makes it worse is that non knife nuts don't understand our passion. :(

I usually stare at pictures of the knives, wondering which one I'd rather hold in my hand right that minute, and by the time I finally decide I usually have enough money saved to buy both. :D

Good strategy, but I'm not trying to decide which one is better. I think I'm just looking for more variety in my EDC. I'd figure that around 20 folders and 7 fixed blades would give me enough variety, but it doesn't...

Umm... you mean you have a selection of 20 folders and 7 fixed blades to chose from for EDC, not that you carry all those every day, right?

...Right?

well, i have about 4 fixed and 8 folders i choose between for edc, but mostly stick to 1 fixed (nealy peshkebz 5") and 5 folders (EKI CQC8, p-tac, crawford perfigo, cammilus cuda maxx/ralph maxx, or a MT SOCOM elite w/a brend grind blade), try to keep the rest LNIB.

as ya get more knives, the selection gets easier imho, for me anyway,i concentrate more now on EKI and MT and customs, and whatever really "grabs" me, lol, somehow/another my wife understands, and even contributes occasionally/or wants one too, got her a EKI mini CQC7 waved w/the green G10 and black tanto for moms day, she loves it!!

trying to squirrel aside enough money to get a BK10 Crewman in desert tan and a TOPS Prairie Fox. I actually whittled a ruler down to size to see what the little TOPS feels like. Medicine for my dog and a new carb for my VW kinda killed my play money for a bit. I did manage to swing $26 for a Camillus trapper. That abolone celluloid is hypnotic. What can I say, I'm easily distracted by shiny objects.

What problem???? Approximately 350 times in the last 6 months I have said, "I don't want, or need, any more knives." Run checkbook, run credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What problem? I have "knife denial." Has not stopped me yet!!

The choices have narrowed considerably for me. I've been through a butt load of knives over the years and always come back to a few particular features in design....straight, simple and HIGH quality. The only problem is that few meet my demands and when they do, they cost over $100. Usually waaaay over.
On the upside, I now get much more pleasure and satisfaction from the few that I do buy/carry/use.

My selection process involves me hunting around the web, reading the forums, grazing through books etc and staring for a month or two at uninspiring knives and then one will jump off of the screen and make me go 'I MUST have that knife!!!'. I refuse to order until I see a knive that really really really appeals to me as Ive bought a few in the past which only partially appeal to me and was just dissapointed.

That being said at the moment there are probably 4 or 5 knives which are saying that to me so I have to exercise some self control. I have a list of knives I want and I choose one when I think I deserve it (ie raise/promotion/passing exam/birthday/xmas etc.)

Most of the time in between is spent drooling

If she's smart she'll pick it for you, mine once said pick it yourself, and I wound up with a Pearl William Henry P10 Lancet.:D

My solution is that you eventually run out. With every hobby or sport I am involved in, you eventually complete the collection you want. I alays make a wish list and eventually I complete it, so what is left?

Once you complete the list, you can take your time with new knives. They never release that many products that I want at once so it's not too difficult.

You know I tried that with my wife a few months ago in regards to a dog. I asked her "which dog should we get, the Boxer or the AmStaff"? Unfortunately she is extremely quick and she replied "we aren't getting a dog".

More likely than not she would pick "the pretty one" which is bound to be the damascus William Henry I'm lusting after. lol!

Why not? Offer her a high end one as well.

She like my knives, but I'm not really sure what kind she'd like. She didn't seem to keen on the Rainbow Leek I gave my sister...I would have figured she would like that one...
