I have so many knives, I can't keep track of them! Out of probably 65 or more, I only really use ten of them. That's not counting the Chinese and Frost junk that I have in my truck, tackle box, tool box, my boat and in my computer desk. What I have

Cold Steel Voyager small clip point and tanto point
Cold Steel Voyager medium clip point
Cold Steel Scottish Dirk
Cold Steel mini culloden
Cold Steel Bushman
Cold Steel Recon Tanto
Cold Steel Kukri Machete
Cold Steel El Hombre
Cold Steel Jr Stockman

Kershaw Chive
Kershaw Scallion (2)
Kershaw Whirlwind
Kershaw Splinter quince wood handle

Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Salt
Spyderco Meerkat
Spyderco Navigator
Spyderco Dragonfly
Spyderco Jester
Spyderco Ladybug (2)
Spyderco Native III

Schrade Old Timer Cave Bear (2)

CRKT M16 spear point
CRKT M16 EDC spear point
CRKT Navajo
CRKT Crawford Falcon folder, neck knife

Swiss Army knife (the big corellian one :) )

Fox and Hound pocket knife with stag handle

Gerber Silver Knight wood handle

Muellers bowie

I'm starting to draw a blank now, I've got more than this. Any ideas on what to pare down on? Some of these serve a task, like the Salt for fishing, can't wait to test it out on the Atlantic, others like the small Voyager and the Delica are EDC's. Some are collectable knives. I just have too damn many!

BOARD MASTER! I am not trying to sell these knives, I just would like to know the pros and cons of these knives, and to see if anyone has anything useful to tell me. To all the readers, thanks for the opinions.

With the exception of the spyderco's, the other knives you list aren't that special (In My Opinion). If that makes me a snob, then I'm OK with that. :p

Get rid of all but your favorite spyderco or two, pick up a benchmade Ritter mini grip, then get a sebenza. ;)

Hi... saw your post. IMO, a couple of these might prove useful. One of my EDCs is a CS medium Voyager with Tanto blade. Most of the CS fixed blades are probably not that unique or worth keeping if you're pressed for space or money. They're not bad, they're just not unique.

You might consider using some of these as gifts for different occasions (unless you need cash or trade value for them). I have always appreciated getting gifts from friends that belonged to them personally for a while. It's like getting a part of them to carry around with you.

I think every serious knife person ought to have a Buck 110 in the back of their drawer or knife case somewhere, just because of it's place in the evolution of modern folding knives (no, I don't have one. I've always been more partial to the 112).

I would probably pick one or two of each maker to keep and dispose of the rest in some way.

Happy trading...

silenthunterstudios,
That's quite a collection. I have a question for you. If you have time and don't mind too awful much, please send me an email at carthagewolfatgmaildotcom
Thanks

If you only use 10, keep those 10.

I think the best course would be to become a Gold member and sell the knives you don't want on Bladeforums. I have sold knives to knife dealers and found that they will give you only a small portion of what you paid for the knives originally - probably only 25 to 30 percent.

interesting line up. I would start by finding those that have no meaning or character to you, those you bought because they "looked cool" and now the novelty has worn off or because they were a "fad" or heavily recomended that you didnt really like. Set them out and get rid of them. Also get rid of any doubles you have, unless you really love the knife. If you still need to get rid of more, set a number, find the knives you use the most, keep them, find those that mean the most to you, semental value, or charm, keep them. Then work your way down the line and logically justify the pros and cons of keeping one or the other and meet your number.

just my 2 cents.

Id say that the 110 damascus stag handle custom is pretty cool. I also like the Tarani. Id keep these two also.

I'd put them all in one box. When you use one, put it into another box. At the end of a year, sell everything left in the original box.

I'd ditch the junkers that you don't use, sell the duplicates, and keep most of the rest.

You've listed 45 knives and five of those are duplicates. That leaves you with only 40. That's not too many.

Most of those are mass-produced factory knives. Unless you bought them for super-cheap and kept them in new condition, you're not going to make much $$ selling them. If you paid full price, used them, sharpened them, lost the boxes, etc., you'll probably lose money by selling. May as well keep 'em.

Best Wishes,
Bob

id keep the leek, delcia, and the swiss army, then sell the rest and get a sebenza, a benchmade, and a microtech. and a sharpmaker. :D

Most of the ones listed are great knives, but not real collectors. You will probably never sell them for the amount you paid. Their value is in using (with possible exception of that stag 110 Buck).

I'd have a friend hide them all. Request one per week back from him on a trade basis (hand in one you were using). At the end of a month or whatever period, you could keep the ones you've missed most and sell or give away the rest.

That solution suggested, where is the problem? I have more knives than that and I don't have a problem! ;)

I'm in the same boat you are. I have way too many knives and multi tools. All of them are in new condition having been bought to collect rather than use. I would suggest selling those that you don't use. When it comes down to it, what would you grab and take with you in an emergency? I use my LM Wave as an EDC and have a LM Juice Pro and higher end CS Kukri in my bug out bag.

What he said. I agree with Beck in principal, but not in price. I figure you can get back probably 75% of their purchase value provided you didn't pay full MSRP if they're in excellent condition.

Keep two favorites and put the rest up for sale. They won't all sell. Keep what's left and divide the money you got between two or three higher-end knives. In 6 months or a year do the same thing again. Do this for 3 years. Your collection will get better and better and your favorites will make your eyes water.

Then you will be one of us. THEN you will become knife-collector Jedi! :D

My quick rule is: If I lost it, would I buy another?

If yes, its a keeper. If no, then I would sell and not give it a second thought.
