Too many passwords - this is insane

this is getting crazy.

ever really count how many passwords, login ID's, and plain old numbers one has to memorize these days?

i'm going to bed.

(yes, i've lost 2 passwords and can't figure out what the heck they were).

One that I used to use on the internet, one that I presently use -- two there.

One at work that's similar (but not identical, thanks to NT forcing me to change the damned thing every other week). One more at work for OBTS that was assigned to me. I cannot remember that one. I have it in an email that I (to date) have not deleted. Not that OBTS works half the time anyway.

Then there's my debit card pin number. I occasionally confuse it with my last debit card pin number but that one is too easy to remember: it was the last four digits of my phone number as a child. The new one was assigned by the bank and has no significance to anyone but them. I can remember it when I have to.

There used to be some numbers that I had to memorize for work purposes when I was on active duty. One would think that it would be the same case where I'm at now but we're refreshingly old-fashioned: besides a few control points with touch screens, everything is locked and unlocked with those bigass brass Folger Adams keys. No numbers except on the keys. I remember which ones do what by the shapes of the teeth rather than the numbers. (Or I ask the inmates if I'm working an unfamiliar post. They always know what all the keys do. No, that's not a joke.)

The bank tellers already understand that I cannot remember my account number and don't even bother to ask anymore. That should be another but I just can't get it. Fortunately they can. (Thank God that they're honest.)

So, I have to remember a grand total of five numbers, not including my phone number. Simplicity is bliss.

As for user ID's, I have my one at work which is fairly easy to remember (my first and middle initials and last name) and the one that I use on the internet, which happens to be my actual name. I never forget it and I got tired of people threatening to sick Satori on me during e-arguments. (Yes, that happened a few times.) Again, simplicity is bliss. It's not quite as secure as I'd like but the last time that I Zabasearched myself, it turned up two results: the last place that I lived and the current place that I live, and both are in the same town. I wasn't exactly hard to find to begin with, evidently...why try to hide?

It's good to see you around again, Dave. I take it that things are good?

Who are you anyway John Galt? :D :)  ;)

I like the Lockbox idea. Mozilla has a "Password Manager" so that when you log in, it will remember the words and ID you used, if you want. Not sure how secure it is. Only use it for places where I am not concerned about security. But handy if you are on a lot of forums.

Easy to check what passwords you are using from your own computer. drawback is that anyone using your computer can see the passwords Mozilla saved.

Good to see you back, Dave.
