Recommendation? Too Many Requirements/Did I remove myself from production knives?

The problem with thinking too hard about what I like, is that I eventually come up with a list of things I want, that never show up together. Since I don't have unlimited money, I may end up trying to make this on my own. I know that's more difficult than just contacting an established maker, but I like doing things the hard way, dammit!

First though, in the interest of my sanity, I'm asking the rest of the group if something with this list of features exists.

Blade length between 2 7/8", and 3 1/8".

Micarta scales, steel liners, an AXIS, Lockback, or similar-style lock.

Unfortunately, the reason neither of these knives would "work" is the blade shape. I'd like something in a sheepsfoot. Or modified wharncliffe. Or, whatever you want to call it. Even the "tribal" blade on some Penas would work. Like this:

A sheepsfoot Griptilian with aftermarket scales would not, unfortunately. I'm not in love with the "hump" over the blade hole.

It needs a pocket clip, and that's what seems to remove a lot of the choices. Also, thanks to Bladesickness for posting a photo of the Pena, and Burncycle for the Benchmade! I'm sorry I stole your pics, but your photos are much better than mine!

Prices....?

Uhhh....

I guess since this is probably heading into custom territory, or "DIY" territory, there isn't really a price point that I can stay below. Although it would be really great to find something which is everything but the micarta slabs. I could do those myself.

Hey, if you've made it this far, thanks for looking, and if you have any ideas, post 'em up!

Not a specific recommendation…yet…but many knives that seem unavailable due to lack of pocket clip are back in play with a D-ring and Tec-clip through a lanyard hole.

This opens up a lot of traditionals to carry that otherwise would be a lump in the bottom of my pocket! This is one of my GEC 83’s.

Sometimes...

I've got several knives that I might want with different steel, or different grips...
But if the foundation is solid: they're still GREAT knives.
Acceptance...

The blade on the QSP you posted is a classic sheepsfoot profile (straight cutting edge, spine rounds down to tip).
The Pena Zulu is a drop-point with a long flat and short belly (unlike the sheepsfoot or wharncliffe, the tip above most of the cutting edge).
I'm having a hard time figuring out what blade style you actually want.

You said you like the Griptillian except for the hole - is the one with studs (and thus no hump) okay?

there are literally hundreds of thousands of knives available. So if you cannot find one you like, you probably don't need a new knife. Just sit on the sidelines and watch all of us play with our 2-7/8" to 3-1/8" blades .

I do believe that I've been called "gramps", and been told to go back and sit in my chair.

Let me tell ya something, sonny.....

....I forget what I was going to say. Huh. Now, where did I put those goshdarned dentures....

Being serious for a moment, thank you to everyone who posted. These suggestion threads are always interesting to me, because I usually realize that the knife I want has very little to do with the very detailed list I put in the OP. It's an excellent way of "checking my head". Such is the case this time, too. There are some "style" concerns that I didn't think about, lurking around. Fonedork's suggestion would have matched my criteria perfectly. I know this because there was one for auction at the exact time I posted this, and although I love Demko's work, it didn't do anything for me. Gotta give this one more time to percolate, methinks.

As for what this blade shape really is that I'm talking about?

I'm not sure, myself.

At one time, I would have said the A. G. Russell Folding Kitchen Knife is the perfect blade shape,

But it's a wee bit big for me to carry around in my pocket.

Giving it some thought (last night on the way home from work), anything with a point that sits below the mid-line of the blade would work, so spear points, Nessmucks, Santoku-style blades, all are possibilities. That's part of the reason I need to give this some more time to think about.

You could go full custom or buy a production folder that meets most specs and send it off for a regrind to get the blade-shape you want.

Here's a full custom friction folder a fellow BF Member made for me some years ago. The cost was quite reasonable and it was a fantastic collaborative experience. I think it nails your criteria except for the lock...

Good luck, OP!

What about a BM Mini Osborne with after market micarta scales? 3" blade, steel liner, axis lock, it has all of them, just the reverse tanto is not exactly a sheepsfoot.
