Heh heh, I've been spending some time at the blasting cabinet, yep I finally got that compresser! Here is the first blasted blade outta my garage so far, it even retained the vertical grind marks that were so nice on this one. It kind of looks like a cross between a satin and BB blade! Its so much fun making an old scratched up blade look brand new, I am thinking about doing this as a side thing, what do yall think?

Dwayne
PS I think I have a before pic of anyone wants to see it, heh heh ;)

Again...Good Job.

 that's what your doin? with that one? that's freaky cause i got rid of my jd to get a pd to bb or polish.

Hi Dwayne,
That looks pretty nifty to me. :cool:I’m also interested in how you protect the handles?
I wouldn’t mind having that done to a Howler and a NO. :D
Ian.

Hey Guys, dont worry about the micarta, it holds up as well as the blade, in fact the blaster only cleans it up a bit. On the smooth micarta of my little PR the blasting made it feel a little grippier, but its not harmed in any way. If your concerned at all and wanna protect it just in case, take a layer or two of duct tape on it. It seems to work well and its cheap! :) And make life a lot easier by removing the coating first, or at least most of it, with a good paint remover.

So far its the PR and the SHSH INFI, hmmmmmm what else is in my knife box......heh heh heh heh

Oh yea, parkerizing a JD, I wanna see pics when your done!! Sounds great! But it might look awesome just in the BB finish, can you take a pic of it in that stage as well??? Thanks! :D

very nice!
i have done that to my users. i use a method that differs slightly.

first i shoot the knife coating with regular silica sand that i buy at a masonary center or lumber yard. using 100+psi it will remove any coating in seconds. i shoot the micarta too but i don't linger on it to long.

to remove the grinding lines i shoot from a 45 deg angle to the lines and from all directions.

beer break

after i think it all looks good i back up to about 18 inches and shoot it straight on using the samo as above.

this will leave the surface nice but unsealed and rougher as the 80's busse's that were rubbed with steelwool (they don't make iron sheep anymore) after blasting.

soooo, then i double cut the finish by using 120 seive glass beads shot at about 30 to 40 psi straight on about 1 foot away. this seals or peens the larger pores left by the cutting sand and leaves a finish as smooth as shag eerrrrr.....
as smooth as a babies bottom.

water will bead up on this second finish and it is nuclear bullet proof.

bead blaster = sears
silica sand = lumber yard
glass beads = sears

busse might offer this service still but you will have beer stains blasted in to your infi for all eternity.
