Too pretty not to share

What's the honeycomb made out of? I know there's some out there with aluminum, for the comb.

I believe the guy I bought this from 3D printed the honeycomb. Apparently it bonds to the resin a lot better than the aluminum does. It’s smooth to the touch too, you can’t even feel the difference between it and the resin

My daughter has a 3D printer and printed up some scales for my mule team and they do not take well to drilling or sanding. The type your were made from obviously was/is sandable.

Yeah, and easy too! I’m gonna shoot him an email and ask

Very nice looking stuff.

I think that the material for the comb might be PETG or one of the poly filaments. If it was done with FDM printer. Maybe it was done in resin. I don't know how well that bond would work.

From the photos, I can't see layer lines, so either printed at high resolution or maybe resin.

donnord donnord if your daughter's printer can run it, try PETG. That is supposed to take sanding better. Most people run PLA for simple stuff and that is really sensitive to temps (it prints at a lower temp than some of the other materials) and isn't the strongest, but is also probably the least expensive.

Most filaments would either gum up and break down during machine sanding (shaping) even with the resin due to heat.

I emailed him! The honeycomb is the same material as the filler. Everything is pure resin, which to me seems even more fascinating
