Too tight Street Beat sheath

I just bought it and it's waaay too tight to pull out. There's bits of sheath material on the blade and near the finger choil whenever I yank it out.

Is there anyway to loosen the sheath other than through wear and tear?

The streetbeat has sharp edges on the spine jimping and a few other areas. A little bit of use will cut into the kydex enough to break it in, just blow out the little bits of kydex scrapings until it doesn't happen anymore. Also spraying the inside down with wd-40 after the worst of the gouging is over will quicken it up nicely. Check out the photobucket link in my sig. line, I've done two streetbeat sheaths pages 2 & 3, cool knives.

Thanks for the tip. If I were to use it as a neck knife now, I would probably break my neck.:D

Is there a way to use your thumb to help pop it out? I put thumb jimping on almost all of my sheaths whether factory or made by me. It seems to help.

When I first got my Aqua Salt, it was so hard to get out that I had to yank the hell out of it with 2 hands. And it hurt my shoulders a lot. And if it was on my belt, my pants would rip off before I'd be able to pull it out of the sheath.

I filed down the nipples a little bit, and eventually (talking a couple hours here) it got really easy to come out (as in normal, not too tight, not too loose).

A hair dryer or a quick dip in boiling water of the affected area will soften the kydex and allow you to change how tightly it holds on.

Just be really careful and don't blame me if you screw it up ;)

Be very mindful of the areas where rivets are holding the halves together any deformation there will result in loose sheath with gaps and such.

I just found out that if I don't push the blade all the way into the sheath, the knife is held securely and easy to pull out, but it rattles a little.

Work it for a few weeks, it will break itself in.

Failing that you could just sand down the edge a bit, of course the worry is what happens if you sand it too much ;)

I got greedy with my Street Beat sheath and chopped the top 3/8" off the top so I could get my finger in the choil better as I drew the knife and make it easier to draw. About 4 months later I'm in the middle of my order for Scott Gere to make me a new sheath because it loosened up over time and now the old sheath barely keeps the knife in place.

It's like Novocaine, just give it time...
