Are there laws against trading / selling knives to minors? I've got a kid that keeps trying to get me to trade my KA-Bar to him, but I looked up his aim name online and found a forum where he lists himself as being 15.
Any thoughts on this??

You are in the wrong forum , thats a thought .

1234,,,,,,,,,lol

Have to ask , threads gets moved out of W&C ?

I absolutely refuse to sell to anyone under 18. You should as well.

Kick him in the nuts and set him on fire. If he still wants the knife after all that, then sell him the knife.

Kidding aside, I don't know the law but I wouldn't sell a knife to a minor. In this case, he listed his age which helps.

How does anyone know if they're selling to a minor unless he told you so?...I don't know.

As with most laws regarding knives, it is determined mostly by what state you reside in.
My advice: Stay safe, don't do it.

It depends wha state you're in...in Texas, the law says you can't sell an "illegal" knife to a minor...example: a full-size Ka-Bar, otherwise, it's OK.

Still...I would pass.

Unless it was a trusted family member, I wouldn't.
If the kid goes whacko with it, they'll try screwing you in the lawsuit; they name people that are barely even remotely involved.
Not worth the bother, and there's plenty of other places a kid can find a knife without getting you involved.

If it is legal for him to own the knife (depending on the state) then not selling to him based purely on age is also illegal.

As to the "what if he goes nuts" thing. Well then, we should not sell a knife to anyone. Better yet, ban all knives because any of them might fall into the hands of a nut. They have wonderful places just like that, try the UK or most of Europe.:jerkit:

If you are really concerned then have him get written permission from his parents. Even if he fakes it, it is still a CYA move.

I trade a few knives at gun shows and flea markets in Texas. I get lots of kids wanting a knife. If I have any doubt about there age or think they are under 18 I tell them to bring an adult and will sell them to adult and they can work it out.

How could you possibly verify someone's age that purchases from you online with paypal?

dude i am 15 i use paypal. i bought sold many busses and everyone thought i handled it verywell... i say as long its PP its all good...

I wouldn't do it. In my state it's illegal to sell a knife with a blade of more than 10" to a minor. Other than that, I believe it's personal/company policy. Still not a good idea.

I hired some kids to rake my yard once and stupidly advanced them the money. They never came back to do the work. And... since they weren't 18 there wasn't a whole lot I could do about it because minors can't legally engage in contracts. So.... if you do a trade with a minor and he/she doesn't deliver you're pretty much hosed. Especially if the parents don't care if their kid is a dirtball or not. YMMV

Well Oilman, it seems you got a bad deal, but I've dealt with adults who are just as sleazy and even a lot more sleazier. I don't think it is as much age as just some people are the way they are. I guess I'm a little biased because I'm only 15 but I think what I say still holds true.
