Sometime back, I was cruising the 'bay, and came across an auction titled "poket knives". The picture looked like someone took it through a screendoor in a thundershower... :D

One of the knives looked interesting so I made a bid and ended up winning the auction. When the package arrived, I couldn't wait to check it out. The other three knives were kinda junk, but the one I was curious about turned out to be this:

It is a Remington R8063 double blade springer. Both blades fire decently. I believe it was made at the Presto factory (G. Schrade)

Now, there is a noticeable crack that runs most of the length of the bone on the front side, and someone has obviously repaired that. The bone on the other side is great.

I have very few Remingtons (maybe 1 or 2), and I think this is officially my 2nd automatic. The bone on it is awesome, I'm so jazzed to add it to my limited collection. Knives like this, for me, are the embodiment of traditional cutlery. I'm sending it to the spa for a day of beauty, someone is looking at it to see if makes sense to replace the cracked bone or posssibly give it a tuneup.

I almost forgot the best part... I won the auction for $6.25 shipped

Wow!....that was a very good score!, and what a sweetheart of a knife, I love the style of jigging on that magnificent bone!
Well done, Glennbad did good :D

So in an auto prohibited state, is that contraband, or is there a grandfather clause to this sort of thing? Not trying to be a negative nellie, but in PA, autos are a no-no. When I was younger (30+ years ago), I "borrowed" a knife from my Grandfather that he got in Sicily in 1943 when his cruiser, USS Philadelphia (CL-41) landed there, or maybe it was Palermo (don't remember). It was an auto, but I didn't know any better, but I was a criminal at that point, and so was he, for having it. I returned the knife to it's resting place. The knife was lost to posterity, it's gone. I confessed my crime, and he has no idea what happened to it. No harm done, everyone in the state survived the onslaught of the antique auto death knife.

I'll say! Very apt description. :D

You're a braver man than I. ;)

Were the other knives even worth working on? If so, you'd be the man to do it.

Regardless, congratulations on the wheat amongst the chaff.

New Hampshire has no knife laws regarding the ownership, transport, sale, etc. of switchblades, so I am fortunate in that regard.

The barlow is a stamped shell, all rusted out. The small metal knife is not bad, a Solingen gents knife.

Thanks.

Keep the original bone, IMO! That's nice stuff!!
Nice score, Glenn - no second mortgage there!!

I agree, Glenn, that old bone is so sweet, you've gotta keep it!
Those old Presto's are just too cool, I'm so jelly!

The only way I would replace it is if I could find another uncracked one off the same model. Otherwise, it will stay original.

Thanks for the comments, I'm pretty jazzed about it still!

Six twenty-five?? Even I could afford that :D:D

Very interesting find, didn't know they came in bone, thought they were only composite or Cell.

Thanks, Will

My Grandpa had a auto like that one that he would always carry with him. I remember being in awe of that knife and I have no clue what ever happened to it. I recently found a old traditional knife of his with no handles and an old klein elecricans knife all rusted that i am trying to restore. Have you checked out ETSY they have stuff like that sometimes where you can get a "lot" of knives for a not to bad a price.
