Last night, I took a drinking buddy of mine to The Range to look at knives. Their prices were above internet prices, but I figured it would be the same as buying form 1SKS.com and paying for same day air (if their is such a thing). I saw a large Spydie Calypso in micarta scales that I wanted, but I had already blown my cash on Emersons. My friend was attracted to an old school ATS34 BM AFCK. As he was playing with it, I could see a glow in his eyes and a smile starting to form. I said "What'dya think?" He smiled and promptly bought it.
When I met Ryan, he showed an interest toward knives and as we got to become friends, I gave him a Buck Odyssey. Now I believe I have converted him to the path of steel and in another month or two, I believe the bug will bite him again. What did I get out of this? Well aside from checking out some .45 USP's and a few axis folders, I found that being there to help a friend get a new knife can be almost as rewarding as getting one for yourself.
