Like the title suggests, I recently took apart my Ontario RAT-1 for some much needed cleaning. Upon reassembly, I found that the blade is no longer centered like before. I've tightened down all the screws and the washers are all in the correct place but the blade is still favoring the non-lock side liner. Anyone have similar experiences? Any insight and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Loosen all the screws and force the blade to the opposite side. While holding it there tighten all the screws. You can also try loosening the screws and forcing the scales to move the blade and tightening. Both should work.

Thanks, I'll give that try and see if it fixes the problem.

One of the scale screws is causing problems, usually the one from the stop pin.
Loosen all screws, as suggested before, and when tightening them, keep one finger on one side of the blade, the one that is closer to the scale, so you can feel at what screw is the blade moving off center. Hope this makes any sense.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've given them all a try and it has help a bit. However, although the blade is no longer touching the liner, it's still nowhere near centered. :grumpy:

Any other ideas?

I've just about given up on the damn thing. I even clamped the blade to the lock-side and screwed down the screws as far as they will go without stripping them and still no dice. :grumpy:

Not trying to be a jerk or state the obvious, but did you put the washers in the correct way? I've had the same problem before and drove myself crazy before I figured it out. You can also fold a piece of paper and use it to wedge the blade to one side while you tighten the screws, it makes it a bit easier

Loosen all the screws a bit, including the pivot. Hold the knife vertical with the blade open and the sharp edge facing you. Push the liner lock to the left so its just engaging the blade by like half the width. Once you have that you want to keep it there and push up on the left scales and down on the right. You should be able to do this by holding it in your left hand and pinching it between your thumb and index finger and at the same time pushing up with the thumb and down with the index finger. Next tighten all the screws and see how it looks. Its tricky to do on your own, but can be done. Might be better off having a bit of help

I'm pretty sure I have all the washers in the right place. I've got 2 bronze-phosphor washers and 4 Teflon washers. 1 b-p and 2 Teflon to each side.
I'll give the paper a try.

I'm not sure I understand you completely. By "push[ing] up on the left scale and down on the right" do you mean in a vertical sense (i.e. up = towards the tip of the blade; down = towards the butt of the handle scale)? If so, I'll give it a try.

Aznpos, that is what I meant. It has worked for a few different folders for me when the other things mentioned above didn't seem to help.

How did it work for you?

I've tried it a few times and it seems to have moved the blade over very slightly but the blade is still way off center. I think I'm just going to have to accept the fact that the blade is probably going to stay this way :(
