Some of you may have seen the little fire kits he makes and specifically, the kit we made when I visited his shop. The idea was to include the blade and saw from a Vic Farmer, or at least something close. The Farmer is tricky to open with gloves on, so I wanted a good alternative that would be easier to manage. John posted the first kit here. I wanted a few changes to it, so we ended up trying again on the saw. Here is the result:

I grabbed a PVC saw for the saw blade, which isn't ideal, but there are plenty of different types to try. I just need to hit a hardware store with a bigger selection.

And the knife:

Let me tell you, this is one of the handiest little blades I own. It's a feather stick makin MACHINE. I love the size and shape of the handle scales. Good stuff. Those of you who don't have a JK fire kit should think strongly about picking one up.

Nice pics, Snow. That looks like a handy little kit - especially the little fixed-blade EDC. I'm a big fan of my JK fire kit.

Happy fuzz-sticking,

- Mike

That's a good lookin' set:thumbup: I'd bet there's not a lot you couldn't do with that knife and saw combo:D

Excellent set up, Snow. I really like it.

And Stomper, that knife is a beauty - my favourite one of yours, so far.

nice looking kit :) would there be a way to incorporate a wood blade- ie cut to size a bow saw blade or the like? can you take a pic of how the blade is fastened?

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

The knife is great. Small size and very handy.

Yeah I meant to use wood blades, but the hardware store didn't have a good selection. The blade is removable. I will show details tomorrow.

Sweet setup. My siblings are getting m my first JK for x-mas, so I am looking forward to enjoying the quality if my thick hiker.

Which one are you getting?

Snow gets the credit for this idea, it worked out well, if the saw gets dull, just change it. If you want to cut steel, no problem, just switch blades!

Here are a few more pictures.

Tinder pouch is shown in this pic:

Stomp, I am thinking a 3/16" thick hiker with red liners, black micarta, solid pins, and a lanyard hole. I haven't ordered it yet, (and I know the lead time it 10 weeks or so, but its the thought that I'll get for X-mas)

I was going to go with a BRKT FT kephart, but I was not impressed with the quality of my BKRT necker, and I have been drooling over your knives since I came to BF. If I am going to spend the money, I'd prefer to give it to an individual rather than a company anyway; plus if I don't like it, I know who to tell.

looking at the pic it appears you could use almost any saw blade- cut it to the right length, put a dremel to the end/shape and drill a hole- voila small, light wood saw :)
