Immediately after receiving the SAR5s I was disgusted with the squared butt.. It was extremely uncomfortable to hold reverse and it just looked plain fugly. Another complaint were the handles. They felt way too large for the size of the blade. I decided to do the following mods.
-grind off corner of butt.
-strip coating
-hand sand blade finish
-Polish spine
-hand shape handles
-vinegar treatment (gives the blade a gun metal look)

let me know what you folks think

I haven't even got mine yet and now you're posting stuff like this!

Oh the humanity, looks like I got to rethink my treatment of the SAR5 I got comin.

Nice job there UJ.

That looks great  I want to do the same with at least one of mine when they get here. Too bad I don't have a grinder...

My setup was a vice, battery powered drill, a grinding wheel drill bit, scotch brite drill attachment, and sandpaper.

I would get wreckless if I owned a belt sander :D

Ohhhh Man! That looks awesome:eek::thumbup:

Thanks for the tip on the vinegar treatment.

I have to ask... Are those the original slabs?!?!?! Pretty cool effect if that was with the vinegar as well.

Sheesh! I gotta say again the gun metal treatment with INFI dimples looks fantastic!!!

Havent even had the chance too touch mine and you already moded?

WTH?

You can do mine for free :):):)

yes they are the original slabs. I just sanded them down.

Man, you've got balls. I would NOT be able to try something like that on a brand new INFI...even IF it was very inexpensive. I bet, however, you've given guys like Ban and Ducci PLENTY of great ideas. Nice work, brother.

Thanks!
I'm still a noob as far as modifying a knife goes.
Every piece of infi I modify is a learning experience.

Looks awesome. I'm already pissed I didn't get one but these mod threads just make it worse.

Can some one explain the vinegar thing? it looks sweet. Do you just soak the blade in vinegar? what kind?

Meh, I liked it better the way it was.

:D Looks good Jarvis. I thought about doing the same with the butt. rounding the corners to be more in line with the handle slabs, but leaving the center flat.

The handles were thicker than I expected, but I like'em.
