Well, I planned an overnighter, but it would not be. Had work, so atleast I was able to get out there and but a decent 3 day load in it and hit the trails behind town again. Again like last time nothing spectacular but I like sitting on top of the smog and have a snack watching all the busy peoples life buzz around you. And like last time, I received a few odd looks cross the intersections on the trek back home. 1800 feet ascent, 2100 feet decent. I will admit I like my Kifaru equipment, just purchase s supertarp, annex, and small stove for this fall, since that will be the first time Ill be able to use it due to traveling overseas.

Daughter and mommy starting the trek out with me. They continued to Ensign peak and I kept climbing.

At the summit, took a shot of the ZXR partially loaded. I need to get in better shape, this 45lb pack kicked my rear today. Had a nice snack and just watched everything around for the next 45 minutes.

Where I now need to head. Lost track of the trail near the bottom and ended up going the wrong way... result... I bit dirt trying to traverse to the trail, sure I will feel it in the morning.

Heading down, snow is still deep here, sunk up to my knees a few times... great!

Hope no one minds me sharing but overall a great little trip except for the incident at the end. Cant wait to be able to actually use the gear of a few weekend'ers but alas I still need to wait.

Yup, sorry, Kifaru ZXR pack. Really wanted to do an overnighter Satuday/ sunday up big cottonwood, but having to work killed that idea. Oh well. The ZXR is my new "middle" pack. Big enough to handle most outtings without pockets, small enough that it is actually "low" key... as if any pack is low key.

Its the one of the right.

Nice pics. Were are you? I'm going to guess Utah?

Googled Ensign peak - I was right :D If I still had to live in a big city, Salt Lake would definitely be in my top 5.

Man those were some nice pictures. a question though. Is the Salt Lake water level lower than normal? Joe

Pretty sure those are dog tracks.

Probally, looking at the rear pad, should be W shaped huh. Shows ya how much I need to know, my bad. Nice correction.

Way lower, as i is almost everywhere worldwide. Global warming some would call it, Hopefully its just a cycle, but the waterways down south are really low as well. Makes from some nice scenery but bad for the boaters.

Sure is nice, I like growing up here. Always did little outdoor stuff, just wanted to get more into as of late.

And its great that I can walk from the doorstep to foothills, on a small hike and back thru the city... these are from the 10th while cutting thru the city on the last one you can see Ensign peak and if you follow the ridgeline east (right) that is where the pack shot was taken.

Cool photo's of the Salt Lake Valley and Cottonwood Canyon. I figured that was the area when I saw the first two pictures. Looks like you had a good time except for biffing it at the end.

Whats the pack to the left of the ZXR (one in the middle)? looks like a good size for a day pack or extended day pack.

I just sent you an email about a campout this weekend up Provo Canyon.

Thanks for the photos. I have a Kifaru XRay, which I really love, so of course I'm thinking about something the next size up (i.e., midsize). What made you decide on the ZXR versus other Kifaru choices?

awesome pics.. i also thought he was refering to a new motorcycle too...:o

Thanks guys, it was nice to just sit up there and enjoy the slow easy life for a bit. As for the bike, sorry.. I would probally kill myself on one.

I chose the ZXR for a few reasons, I already owned a large pack from the last hunt, I like the top loaders, not a big fan in panel loaders, but to each their own. The Zulu was not big enough and is built on the same system as the Molle Ex I already have, it was either a ZXR or MMR, being I already owned the EMR the I did not want to double similar packs and the slot pocket on the ZXR is interusting. Glad I went with it after carrying it up that little hill. Legs are a little sore this morning and the stairs at work are a drag but I cant stand elevators so up them I go.

Im at work.. go figure, live here most the time. Ill check it when I get home and see what goes down. As for the middle pack. Its a Kifaru Molle Express. Great back, add a pod (or have a small bag) and its great. Being all my sleeping bags are wiggys, they are a little heavy and dont compress to well, but the sleep is great in them. Ill see what I can work around this weekend and get back with ya.

Here is the MEx earlier this month around the same area.

There was alot more wildlife out then and a little more snow, in the first photo there are actually 6 groups of deers in the shot (the peak where a majority of the shots above were taken is in the top there). I zoomed in and took photos of most of them, they eventually wandered over my location on the way down..
