I met up with my buddy Steve and his dog today and set off up a little trail that we had not been on before....

Turned out to be a much shorter trail than I'd imagined but it was ok and provided some good views albeit of a pretty urban landscape.....

The trail was quite nice though....

At the very summit there was this Cairn that was mounted on the foundations of a Forest Service lookout tower.....

Here is the pass-around knife on top of the cairn....

cool pics Pit... glad you're digging the knife.. it's a nice all around size.. i really liked it..:)

Did you get a chance to use the knife at all? Where's Maisy?

Hey buddy, I didn't use the knife on that hike but I did use it when I called at my second hiking spot ! I really like the feel of the knife and I'm not just saying that, my only issue is that I'm struggling to get it as sharp as I like to have them which is no fault of the knifes design just down to my inability to sharpen scandi's ! The thing that throws me is that I have a Koster Nessie with a scandi grind and I use it regularly and only have to touch it up on some wet and dry but maybe this knife has gone past the touching up phase or maybe it's down to it having a secondary bevel ?

Hre is a pic of Maisy from my second hike that day ( she's getting old now eh !):(

Well pitdog, as far as the Scandi sharpening goes, I've come up with a little trick for it. If you try and sharpen it the way you normally would, you have a tendency to rock the edge a little. Place the bevel flat on the stone and drag it along the edge instead of pushing into or pulling against. Since it has a microbevel, it could be tricky, but I suppose you could just start with a coarser stone and sharpen it into a true zero-ground Scandi.
