Hey. Wanted to share a few pictures of the Northwestern Ontario winter. We've been having a cold snap the past week or so, with temperatures dipping down to -40 C with the wind. I took my sled out for a run. I regularly ice fish but we've been spoiled with rather mild weather. It was pretty cold (-30C/wind) and the fishing was slow. We only caught two but I had fun running my new (to me anyway) 1988 Tundra LT. Hope you folks like!

My friend, you have the testicular fortitude of a sperm whale. -40 is far past my grin and bear it threshold. I applaud you.

In fairness, by the time we got out there it had warmed up to -28 :) Once we were out of the wind, it was quite pleasant as long as you are dressed. I had my down Woods parka with the tunnel hood. It's from the '70s but man, it's warm!

Thats crazy cold! I've never felt anything lower than mid-teens weather. I believe our historical record low is about 10*F! I salute you brave sirs.

Worst part was when my throttle cable froze and after I thawed it out, the bugger took off on me . . .

I had -25°C once. It was pretty damn cold. Tried lighting a fire in -20°C once, wasn't much fun even though I had brought firewood and half a canvas/wax torch out with me. I even had difficulties to light a candle. Kudos to you for getting a fire lit in those conditions...

I think what we consider "cold weather clothing" here in mild central Europe must be somewhat of a joke to you, something to wear on a pleasant spring day...

beautiful sceanery but at -40 i gotta say ahh hell no!!! stayin inside by the fire lol!

As much as I like the outdoors, there is something to be said for the southern variation. At minus 40C/F I tend to stay indoors, .....near a roaring fireplace.

looks like fun, I like the retro sled. This was my morning in Midland Ontario -22c. Went inside and rebuilt some Rotax motors from newer ski doo's

The coldest that I have been out in is -56C which would be about -65F I guess. Up here we used to get about -45C for a couple weeks every winter but we haven't seen -40 for the past 2 winters and not yet this winter either. Forty below is darn cold for recreation, however and riding a sled you can be stranded in the open on a hurry.

Agreed. We were in a small group with 2 other machines and not so far in the bush we couldn't walk out. We also had extra gear, made sure someone knew where we were and the means to make a fire.

Man, that looks freaking cold! What kind of layers you wearing?

Polypro underwear. Wool pants with waterproof ski pants over. Torso had 2 layers of thin synthetics/fleece, wool overshirt and then my '70s Woods goose down parka with fur hood. Mil-surp overmitts with wool liners and my Dunlop -40 boots with merino wool heavyweight socks and Bama booties. Wool toque and neck gaiter for my head and helmet when I was riding.
