I thinking of buy my first non ss blade either M4 or M2 - how much additional care do I need to worry about?
Just a wipe down if it gets wet? thanks:rolleyes:
 
Depends on a lot of things, climate is probably the biggest. In Arizona I can leave a carbon blade unprotected for months at a time with no serious issues, except during the summer monsoon season. My brother has one of my knives in San Fransisco and it rusts constantly without maintenence (he lives a mile or so from the ocean). Cold weather causes condensation issues which may require additional maintenence.
 
I would just wipe it down with a light coat of oil every now and again and especially right after you use it and when it gets wet.
