Good day to all.

I was wondering if you guys can help me.

Always wanted to make my own leather sheaths. I got some old tools from my grandfather but they are a bit rusted and the steel is no good any more.

Any idea where I can buy some "starters kit" on line. I will prefer to buy in the USA or Europe as I am in Spain.
Any suggestions on what should I get?

I'm looking to start with some simple stuff. Already got the leather, glue, sandpaper and some other stuff.

Thanks in advance for any help.

One very good place to start your quest is Tandy Leather and or The Leather Factory, they are honestly one in the same.

They have several starter kits, look at the contents for clues as to what you need as a guide.

For sheaths, you need a couple more things: Stitching Groover- for marking the stitching line. Something to mark your stitching holes, I use a "fork" (or thonging chisel) as the little points on a stitching spacing wheel are way too small for these old eyes. A decent mallet, either plastic (cheaper) or rawhide (dont use metal hammers on your leather tools, it ruins them) Get yourself a good utility knife with the changeable blades, sharpen them as needed, disposable is an oxymoron in these as they last a good long time with diligent sharpening.

A hole punch isnt a bad idea as I use mine daily.

If your going to use snaps and rivets here and there, might as well get a good setter for each type. Tandy carries a universal set that is really good for most situations.

Bone Folder, either synthetic or natural will make life a LOT easier.

I need to get back to work but I am sure someone will chime in with more that is important. :)

I would like to see your grandfather's tools. I bet the metal is still fine, if you can get rid of the surface rust.

I got everything I needed at Tandy leather. (I used to live by a store).
