Posted this elsewhere but thought you guys would enjoy the Becker content. :D

Have to babysit the pager this weekend so it's no woods time for me. However, I was able to get out in the yard for a bit of dinking around. I've been wanting to make a hobo fishing kit and my ShrewHawk (which I really like) has been screaming out for a better, longer, uglier handle.

Here's a maple stick I cut a while back, my (short but pretty handled) ShrewHawk and my BK2.

Decided to cut via cross batoning. Worked well enough - mostly.

Unfortunately my maple cracked a bit.

Whipped out the Vic Huntsman for a bit of sawing. Probably should have just used that first.

And there's the hobo hand reel. Stripped and shaped with the BK2. Ready for sandpaper and some sort of sealant.

Did a bunch more stripping and shaping and viola - longer tomahawk handle - ready to be trimmed.

Also ready for sanding / sealing.

Anyway.

Coolness dude.

That's awesome.

To bad that maple cracked a bit.

Now you gotta go spend some time with sandpaper.

:D

cool! who's 'hawk head is that?

Looks like a fun day piddlin around....and I agree with the unruly Mob on this one, that is a nice 'hawk!

That's a Ron LaClair ShrewHawk. I really like it - head is forged here in the USA and what not and it's easy to get danged sharp. It's just that the stock handle - light and convenient as it is, is awfully short.

Well done sir! I switched the handle on my CS hawk for the pommel that comes with the "WarHammer" and that extra length lets you generate some serious speed/power. You're a Mountain Man stuck in the city.... or atleast it seems that way;)

Nice "Nessmuk Trio":

Mountain Man stuck in the city - I like the sound of that better than 'goob with a day job' - think I'll take it. :D

As to the Nessmuk Trio - good call. That didn't even dawn on me until you mentioned it - those were just the three tools I needed at the time. Heh.

Nice pics, and yes, Nessmukky:) I carry a huntsman too. Mines a boy scout model... only one I could find. My favorite sak...

Gingi when you gonna drag your carcass down to one of the gatherings?

Heh - I'd love to go. Just hasn't worked out yet. I've got two problems. 1) My daughter graduates this week and we have tons of company in town on top of my oncall schedule so this next few weeks is out of the question for me. 2) My parents live very close to Ethan's place and I see them rarely enough that I'd feel like a rat going all the way down there only to camp with you reprobates. :p

I'm working on that second one though. :D
