Not sure where this should be posted buuuut....

Is a merchant 2.0 worth $295 of my hard earned money? Or is there another similar priced USA made folder I should be looking at? I'm pretty full up on spyderco....benchmades don't really do it for me, even though I have a few. I've spent more on fixed blades but for some reason $300ish seems like plenty for a folder...thanks members!

Your timing is good. I just got one. It was on sale for about $140. Only available in the tanto blade though. I actually like how they did the tanto. Now to the bad part. The clip is absolutely garbage. I bent it the first day. Also there is a domed headed screw for the clip that gets in the way of fully seating into a pair of Levi's. Thinner pants or shorts would probably be fine. No luck on a replacement/upgraded clip either. I just took mine off. Original clip bent like aluminum!
I like the knife itself. It's pretty thin and small.

That's the one complaint I saw. Clip and the screw holding it on...be nice if lynchnw would make a clip for them..

Ya the clip is a poor design. It only has one single screw. I'm happy with my purchase at the sale price but you can forget $250 or 300

I've never seen anything to suggest that a Toor folder is worth the asking price to me. Too many mixed reviews, too far from my own preferences, too much competition.

$300 is a funny spot in terms of price points, especially if you want a) USA made and b) not Benchmade or Spyderco. I'd recommend saving up another $100 or so to step into the realm of Chris Reeve, Hinderer, Spartan Blades, etc.

Having owned a couple of Toor knives, I can tell you that while they're decent, they're also pretty run of the mill. For $300, I'd be looking at something from Tactile or, well, many others instead. Also, and full disclosure/disclaimer below, while some brands, you're able to buy them, try them out, then move them on without too much pain, Toor is absolutely not one of those brands. Every time a Toor knife gets posted, it sits and you see folks (like me) reposting them. So, I would recommend getting a used one when they pop up if you can, or maybe on the Bay. They just aren't worth the depreciation hit. It's somewhat a shame because the materials list and American manufacture would have you believe they're at the level of others of that specific genre, but eh, not really.

Toor makes their money on that initial sale, and frankly, given the extremely poor secondary market value of them, it better be a knife you love, simple as that.

Disclaimer: I have a Merchant 2.0 and a smaller model as well, the name escapes me, that I was never able to sell on the Exchange even at like, a 50% discount and posted multiple times. Please understand, I'm not saying this as any sort of "poor me" or lashing out at others because they didn't want the knives. Also, mine aren't currently for sale, or posted as such. Fourth time I posted 'em up with no interest, I shrugged and ended up putting them away. No big deal, it happens. Now, if I ever need a beater for some reason and one my many others isn't available, maybe I'll use one of them instead.

I have noticed they really don't hold their value...I thought about ordering one just to try out but I'd probably loose $150 by time I get it sold....or more.

Honestly no. As much as I support USA made stuff it just isn’t a great option for what you can get. I wouldn’t go as far to say that they are poorly made however. Just the design itself is not very good in my opinion.

If you want something similar, in my humble opinion just save up $100 and get either a Chris Reeve Knife, Spartan SHF, or a Hinderer. It may seem like a big jump but it’s worth it if you want a titanium frame lock.

If you want to stick in the same price range, I’d suggest a Pro-Tech button lock like a Malibu, or a Three Rivers Manufacturing knife like an Atom, Neutron or Bulldog.

It sucks to say but you don’t want to go for the cheaper version of something and regret it later, you’ll most likely save yourself $725 by just buying in the $425 knife category. They will hold their value better as well, depending on what you pick.

I will say again, if the Toor Merchant appeals to you design wise and you think you’ll stick with it, go for it. You are correct in that if you buy it for retail you will almost immediately lose a lot of value by just having it in hand. Kind of like buying a Kia vs a Toyota

Well I decided against gambling on a toor. Instead I'll add to my spyderco collection. I picked up a para 3 salt in magnacut.

I have plans for it.

Magnacut blade into my s45/g10 liners with Rgt skinny micarta.
S45 blade into a black lightweight I have.
Cts bdn blade into the yellow salt scales and maybe die them teal for my wife.

Yep, I picked one up for about $130, and couldn't even get that back out of it, and it was LNIB, I think it finally moved for $90 😲

For the same money as a Toor, I would get a classic ZT, say a 0909 or a 0620/30/40 or even a 056 series.

For $90 I'd give one a try. Maybe even $130....but not $295... I mean I spent $240ish on this para3 and scales but I expect good spyderco quality.

An awesome one right now is the Bodacious, I put on some Ti scales and it's a fantastic combo!
