why is an Arkansas toothpick enormous but a Texas toothpick is tiny .. I thought every thing is suppose to be bigger in texas?

A Texas Toothpick knife is not tiny per se, but some manufacturers offer them in several sizes. If you are referring to the Case brand, they do have a small (3" closed) knife that they call the Small Texas Toothpick. There is also a Medium Texas Toothpick that is 4 1/4" closed, and a Large Texas Toothpick that is 5 1/2" closed.

Yeah was referring to the tiny toothpick perhaps it's more ingrained because its in their standard hardware store display I think.

I've always heard "Texas Toothpick" in reference to the toothpick pattern folding pocket knife. Like this:

An "Arkansas Toothpick" as I've heard the term used, means a large (bowie-sized) knife, a symmetrical & double-edged dagger.

They are made up names. There is no "right" knife for the word "toothpick." IIRC, AGRussell invented a new one "California toothpick" for some of his marketing.

I think both questions have been answered correctly, several times over the years, in BR Levine's forum.

The California toothpick (etched on blade) was a BUCK product made by Camillus.

Yes it is a Buck, but it is also a AGRussell product as well. Just shows that everyone copies in the knifeworld...especially the big boys :)
