This thread is to see what the top 10 knives to have under $150.

The reason I'm starting this thread is because a few months ago, my buddy told me that I should start getting into knives...wow, what an addiction he started! :jerkit:

I picked up (as of now):

1) a straight blade Buck Strider
2) a Spyderedge stainless steel Police model
3) a CRKT Bear claw with pointy edge and serrated blade
4) a straight edge Benchmade 3100 (auto)
5) a straight edge Spyderco Delica

Now, on my list of blades I want to have, are

1) Ka-Bar 2-1212-3 Black Fighting Knife
2) Spyderco Civilian Spyderedge

Now, I come to you fellow BladeForum members with a few questions.

1) Are there any more suggestions in the less than 150$ price range?

2) I heard about a few SOGs from others (e.g. Flash II) but I read on the forum that they frequently get too loose. Any good SOG recommendations?

3) If you had to do it from the very beginning, what would be your top 10 blades to have?

Thanks a lot!

welcome to bladeforums, AMini! cool first thread.

for fixed blades, Fallkniven knives are definitely worth looking at. (i say that a lot.) that's the one brand i'll say. there are probably hundreds of knives that can be recommended here. :)

and a spyderco's calypso jr,delica, para,or military and endura
benchmade gotta have a grippy
buck 110 and 112

Spyderco Manix or Military (actually I'd vote for $160 BG-42 CF Military but it's over the limit (btw you can get ZDP-189 CF Caly3 for $150:thumbup:))

Benchmade Gravitator and Opportunist
Benchmade HK 14205 (?) or BM 710
Benchmade 42 Balisong

I can only think of two off the top of my head at the moment - a Bark River Rogue and a Spyderco Military.

This is more culled from reading on the boards than experience with a large number of knives, but this is the list I'm slowly buying up:

Spyderco Delica Wave, Endura, Paramilitary, Caly Jr.
Benchmade 707 (which is, in my mind, sort of an improved griptilian - I know it's historically not, but it's about the same size and weight, it's a little grippy, and I carry it on the same occasions I'd carry a griptilian, and I like the blade more, so there)
Fallkniven F1, U2 (the last is a classic clipless *pocket* knife, and probably my most used knife )
Bark River Northstar, Fox River, Snowy River, TUSK (the last is a supreme whittling knife)
Boker Subcom
Mora 1, 760, 2000
Ontario RAT 3 (the pics of which never appealed to me as much compared to say the Barkies of Fallknivens, but the moment I bought one it melded with my hand and became my most used backpacking knife)

You must include a couple or three fixed blades. Please rethink your position on the "Top 10". Start a new thread asking "Top 20 blades to have under $200"

Thank You

Oh....and welcome to the forum AMini :D :D

Ok...in all seriousness I will opine simply because I'm allowed to.
FOLDERS:
BM mini-skirmish $150
BM 710 $105
Spyderco Calypso $120
BM Mini-Rukus $150

FIXED BLADES:
BM Nimravus $110
BM Snody 210 $110
Ontario RAT-3 $65 - $85
Bark River Mini-Canadian or Skinner $70 - $140
BM 201 $85
Ritter Msk 3 (modified BM Griptilian) $165

If you are looking for fixed blade knives, look in the Makers area. You are sure to find some gems under $150 and some under $100 as well. I even seen some for $70-$80! Customs! Who would have guessed.

MPE

1) Spyderco Manix
2) Benchmade 710
3) Benchmade 940
4) Spyderco Military
5) Emerson CQC-8
6) Benchmade 806
7) Benchmade Gravitator
8) Spyderco Endura 4
9) An SAK of some sort
10) Leatherman Wave

I would have put Benchmade Mini-Rukus in there, but I don't think you can get one for less than $150.

-Queen Cutlery Slip Joint in D2
-Benchmade Model 32
-Spyerco Delica (which I realize you already have)
-Just about any SAK (I don't carry mine anymore, but it's still a heck of a knife)

I sold the slippy and the delica a while ago, and I've come to regret that decision. For the money, those knives are some of the best bang for the buck you will get.

This is an interesting thread. My question to the OP is, do you just want a broad spectrum of knives, or something from varous categories, or do you want them all to just be folders of a certain style?

I mean, if you are going to break them down to categories like Tactical folder, utility folder, tactical fixed blade, utility fixed blade, neck knife, automatic, assisted opening, etc the answers are going to vary greatly. :)

A Buck 110 (stag is nice)
A schat & morgan slip joint
A Case slip joint
A Buck Vanguard
A RAt3 or TAK

I have to add the BARK RIVER Boone $149.00 leather handle. I love that knife.
