The computer was playing my favorite songs, and I was thinking what a strange assortment it was. My top 10 at the moment (in no particular order):

Rolling Stones (greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time)
Creedence Clearwater Revival (best American band ever)
Gordon Lightfoot (Canada, eh?)
Ray Wylie Hubbard (because he's really good live)
Parliament-Funkadelic (the definition of "funk")
Al Stewart (an acquired taste?)
Judas Priest (the definitive metal band)
Rammstein ("music to invade Poland by")
AC/DC (the other greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time)
Hayes Carll (the future of Texas music)

What do y'all think?

Basically If I hear it in a bar and its classic rock ...its god.

Glad to see another Ray Wylie Hubbard fan...Just recently got turned on to the man's fine songwriting. "Snake Farm"...What a treat...

My top ten is constantly changing as I hear new material. I'm currently getting down with old Delta blues as I've been working on my slide playing.

However...

Tom Russell. A real troubadour, writing wonderful songs for many years.
Guy Clark. Likewise
Sam Bush. Virtually invented the idea of "Newgrass"; an exceptional and talented musician.
James McMurtry. Another gifted songwriter, with authentic rock and blues chops.
Dave Alvin. Rocker gone "roots".... His last few albums have been exceptional.
Jeffery Foucault. Another fine songwriter. He recently released an album of John Prine tunes that's a great homage....
John Prine. Sure, his voice is a little odd. He has consistently written great songs which may sound funny on first listen but often have a deep emotional edge.
Steve Goodman. In the same class as Prine, alas gone way too soon.
Son House. Of all the great bluesmen... Listen to his recording of "Death Letter" if you want chills.
John Stewart. California Bloodlines is one of the best albums of all time.

Beatles
Stones
Yardbirds
Zeppelin
Hendrix
Zappa
Skatalites
The Who
Pink Floyd
Otis Redding

My current top 10 is:

Dezperadoz (western themed metal)
Iron Horse (extraordinarily well done bluegrass covers of other bands including Metallica)
Koop (classy acid jazz type stuff)
The Bambi Molesters (surf)
The Ghastly Ones ("gothabilly", think Munster's theme)
Toxic Holocaust (thrash metal)
Alestorm (pirate themed power metal)
The Surfaces (vaguely creepy surf music)
Megadeth
Slayer

SRV
Hendrix
Pink Floyd
Skynyrd
Stones
AC/DC
Van Halen
Zep
Seger
Johnny Cash

..and several dozen more but ten's the limit. :)
