Here are my three favorite tactical folders, not in any particular order. The top-to-bottom order in the first picture is: Fantoni HB 02, Strider PT and Extrema Ratio MF0 w/textured handle. The top-to-bottom order in the second picture is: Extrema Ratio MF0 w/textured handle, Strider PT and Fantoni HB 02.

FYI, my definition of a good tactical folder is as follows. One in which was designed for use by law enforcement officer's(leo's), military or emergency/rescue personnel or at least with their respective use in mind. Although, not limited to the following, good examples of brands that cater to this market segment include: Cold Steel, DPx, Emerson, Extrema Ratio, Hinderer, Strider and most ZT's. Must be versatile and effective in two or more tasks which may include use as a weapon(self-defense), practical cutting tool or emergency/rescue tool. Blade must be able to be deployed with one hand(thumb stud, hole, disk, flipper, etc...). Must have good handle ergos. For example, it must provide a secure and comfortable grip in both forward and reverse grip positions under high stress and slippery conditions(blood, mud, water, etc...). For blade durability, it must have a relatively strong tip and a minimum blade stock thickness of at least 1/8"(0.125). Last, but not least, it must have a reliable locking mechanism(liner, frame, lock-back or variations thereof).

I don't know what "tactical" means but what about the Spyderco Military, Spyderco Manix 2 XL and Benchmade 581 Barrage?

My favourites are:

ZT - 0630
Spyderco - Chinook
ZT - 0562

I've always thought of 'tactica'l more as 'options'. A knife that can be pressed into a wide variety (generalist) of different niche's of which fighting may or may not be one of them. There are many fighters out there that come nowhere close to being tactical.

I think we all know that "tactical" is simply a silly marketing term designed to appeal to our inner mall ninja. I'm not judging anyone who gets off on the genre...we've all got a little "ninja" in us whether we like to admit it or not. Hehe. Anyway, I consider a lot of the "tactical" stuff ridiculous and impractical but there are a number of great designs that would still probably qualify as "tactical" for most. Spyderco's paramilitary and military come to mind.

I was just sitting here thinking to myself "No... I don't buy into that "ninja tactical" stuff..."

But then I looked over and forgot that I own and carry this:

I really like this knife too:D

Yeah, I would too!! Just because I find some of them ridiculous doesn't mean I don't lust after them. Haha.

For those who are interested, I have defined what I consider to be a good tactical folder in my original post(#1). I respect the fact that "tactical" means different things to different people.

I just ordered one.

Just got it stuck in my head. How do you like the grip?

Hey Memento, I just reread your op and given your list of requirements I like something like the pm2 for its balance of practicality and "tacticality". :)

Spydie Yojimbo 2 is by far the favorite for me in this category. Benchmade Loco is nice too, as are any variations of the Cold Steel Recon series.

You'll love it!

The G10 has a good texture to it, and it gives the handle some substance opposed to just bare metal. I've had a few G10 Spyderco's and the g10 on the Spartan has more grip to it.

The only thing I didn't like was the kydex sheath. It's well made, but I just don't like kydex:D I ended up making a leather sheath for it instead:thumbup:

My picks...

Spyderco Military, PM2, Emerson Mini CQC 15.

Though I have never needed to use them in self defense.

Nor in many years as a Volunteer Firefighter have I used a knife on scene for rescue. The big red truck has a lot of tools the tax payers bought us to use for that.

But they are great to use on my "real" job. [emoji4]
