Been a while since we've done a top 5 if I'm not mistaken (2015).
Let's see your top 5 favorite folders. Lists are fine, but pictures are better.

Bonus pocket genie question...
What 3 folders would ask of a blade genie?


Top 5 in no particular order.

Shirogorov F-95 nudist S90V
Hinderer XM-18 3.5 slicer
LG CRK 21 micarta insingo
Manix 2 cruwear sprint carbon fiber
ZT 392 BWBRZ

Pocket genie.

Shirogorov custom
Rockstead shun/sai/tei
Grimsmo Rask or a custom by Rod Olson

Both of those makers have been putting out some nice looking stuff. (Yeah I picked 6 for the pocket genie oops)


Tough choices, and more than likely I will switch a few choices after some thought. I just made this post while waiting on a phone call at work.

I haven't set up a picture app yet so I can't post a picture, but I will when I get set up.

At first glance I thought that was a mantra at the bottom. I think they picked a good name for it looking at the older offerings.

Part of the reason I started this thread is because I've been on the hunt for my next folder for quite some time now. When I did my search for top folders I found the 2015 thread. Hoping to see some new ones I might not have heard about yet, or older ones I've missed.

My favorite modern folders: Pheasant Tail Sebenza, PM2, Grayman Dua, Brous Mini Division, and TSF Beast. The genie can bring me a Hinderer XM-18 Skinner with orange handle.
 
I really enjoy threads like this. They get me thinking about the practicality of my collection.

Here are my five:

1. Benchmade 551 Griptilian
2. Benchmade 531
3. Kershaw Zing (US version)
4. Victorinox Cadet/Soldier/Pioneer
5. Benchmade 162 Bushcraft

The Griptilian and 531 get the most pocket time but, if I had to pick my overall favorite, it would be the Kershaw.

EDIT: I just noticed the OP said top five folders. So, the 162 is out and the Vic Soldier/Pioneer is now #5.

Top 5 would be -

2. Ritter Mini Grip(orange!)
3. Good ol' Domino
4. PM2(plain is what I got)
5. Buck 301 in rosewood(it's a tank)

Wish list I guess would be -

1. Protech SNG
2. Hinderer Bowie(choil-less)
3. Shirogorov(anything lol)

I don't know much about midtechs or custom knives. They are out of my price range. At that kind of $$, I'd rather have a handgun or AR. :p

This was really hard and I surprised myself with my final answer. I didn't take any of my Hinderers, CRKs or high-end Chinese knives. Even a pair customs got left behind.

1. Spyderco PM2 M390 sprint

3. G&G Hawk MUDD midtech
4. Cold Steel 4-Max
5. SK Blades SK-23

Pocket Genie was almost as hard!

1. G&G Hawk custom Deadlock
2. Andrew Demko custom carbon fiber AD-15
3. Stan Wilson custom Non-flipper Flipper

I'll add a crappy picture when I get home. :)

EDIT: If I REALLY had a Pocket Genie, I'd have it conjure up a one-of-a-kind collab between the Hawks, Lee Williams and Dmitry Sinkevich. Dmitry would do the overall styling, the Hawks would contribute a Hawk lock and the detent mechanism that they designed for the new Orbit flipper, and Lee would add a Kickstop flipper mechanism.

Take that, Pocket Genie!

Hmmm. I've been struggling with this one since yesterday. Out of my collection, the first three are easy to figure out. Umnumzaan, Southard, 0450. I can't fully express my satisfaction with these three. Each was picked up early in my "collecting," each was a "first" in some way, and each played a role in fueling my ongoing kinfe obsession. Each is marvelous.

Rounding out the top five is a lot more difficult. Today anyway, I would add in the PM2 because it is an awesome workhorse/beater and the 940-2 because of its "pocket and forget it" utility.

Looking at these 5, I feel I've got all my bases covered and could call my collection quits right here. I almost wonder why I have a bunch of other knives...oh wait, now I remember. It's because the rest of my pointy pretties are awesome too!

ETA: What is a pocket genie, btw? ;)
