What do you rank as the top 5 knives for under $300. Use would be a mix of EDC and if needed tactical and light camping work. Thanks.

I will play:

1. Microtech DOC
2. Benchmade 940-1
3. Spyderco Military (S90V)
4. Zero Tolerance 560
5. Spyderco Lionspy

(I tried to stay with knives in the $250 - $300 range)

Man, such a huge pool of absolutely awesome knives at or under that price point, not sure there is any sort of objective answer.

Thanks for the input. Let me see if I can give a few more details. Looking for the $150-300 range. From a reputable company that will stand behind their product and good customer service. Uses good materials, good lock-up, etc. Solid track history.

Weight...would be nice if it was light under 4oz, but up to 8oz is fine if I'm getting something out of it in return.

Hmmm, right now, assuming only folders, IMO, and in no order:
Spyderco PM2
Zero Tolerance 0550
Benchmade Contego
Lionsteel SR-2
Strider PT

ZT0560
ZT0770 (CF or regular)
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Military
Benchmade Rift

Honorable mention:
Cold Steel Code Four: outstanding quality, perhaps the strongest lock on the market, thin and very ergonomic; all for about $50-60. Recon 1 (any flavor) is also in this category.

Thanks for ideas. I'm currently trying to decide between a benchmade 950 rift and 581 barrage. It would be my first benchmade.

No love for the ZT 0300?

The 0300 is a BEAST of a knife. It'll serve the "hard use" category perfectly, but probably won't be too fun to carry on a daily basis - especially for general EDC. Of your two choices, I'd go with the Rift. The reverse tanto blade is awesome, the Axis Lock is brilliant, it carries quite well and it's quite handsome. Good luck!

Grayman Dua
DPx HEST 2.0
original Masters of Defense Watkins Trident Point Man
Emerson CQC-15
....and would have to add my ZT 0560. I got a perfect one.

Of ones I own - ZT 0560, ZT 0550. Both are great knives, period. Could also highly recommend the Brous Mini Division. All of the drama aside, a really cool knife.

Of ones I will own - TSF Beast, Grayman Dua. There are a lot of great folders out there in that range.

get the 950. I had a barrage and it was too bulky in my opinion. I didn't like the way it carried. it also could have used some jimping for your thumb. My vote would be for the Rift.

I own a lot of production folders in that category, ZT: 0550,0801,0301,0560 the Spyderco Military, the Benchmade Adamas etc..imo the best overall production folder in your category is the 0550. I honestly couldn't rank the rest.
