Are you supposed to sharpen this edge? If so should it be done at the same 40 degree angle?

Thanks

It's called an insingo:)
I wouldn't sharpen it, the blade is not designed for that. Also, that would make it dangerous (and illegal in many places) to carry.

You're not supposed to. But you could if you wanted to.

It could technically consider it a double edge instead of just a swedge and in turn make it illegal. Depending on where you live of course.

Why do you want to?

Always better with pictures!

The swedge is a very functional addition to the blade as it is. I use it for scraping, cutting tape when breaking down boxes, etc... it really saves the edge.

Understand it's insingo...fat finger typo. Anyway don't necessarily want to or need to I just noticed it had somewhat of a sharpened edge. This is my first modified wharncliffe/insingo/Chris Reeves knife so wasn't sure exactly how it was meant to be sharpened or what the exact use if the swedge was for. Thanks for all the info I'm a noob

Welcome noob..that's what questions are for :)

As our friends point out the swedge is a handy addition to any blade, the swedge on my Umnumzaan and Regular sees use often. The Insingo blade profile does not lend itself well to having a particularly "useable" swedge though. You could put an edge on the first 10-15mm or so covered by the handle when closed and find some use for it, I'm sure.
The swedge on the Insingo is more for helping the point in piercing and the "heftier tip" pass through materials when slicing, it also helps make life easier when restoring the point is needed, no to mention it looks good too.
Many people sharpen the first section of the swedge on their Regulars and Umnumzaans as it is presented in a way that makes it far more useable than the low pointed Insingo. It wouldn't be totally useless though. :)
